Ken Valaske and Keeli Morning were crowned king and queen as part of the Colfax High School Winter Carnival festivities.

75 candidates have submitted applications for the high school principal’s job in Colfax. Whoever is hired will replace Dennis Geissler, who will move into the superintendent’s job for the district.

Six senior girls played their last regular season basketball game at home for Colfax including Lauren Castillo, Amy Schuler, Keeli Morning, Lacey Logslett, Abby Goodell and Shaina Mulvey. The team defeated Elmwood to clinch a share of the conference title.

February 28, 1991

A son, Tanner Charles Flatland, was born Feb. 19 to Faron and Mary Flatland.

Alf and Bertha Brettingen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with their family Jan. 27.

The Elk Mound boys won the Dunn-St. Croix Conference championship with a record of 16-2 while Colfax was second at 13-5.

In girls’ basketball action, Colfax defeated Elk Mound in a first round regional game 57-49 and will move on to play Durand.

March 5, 1981

Debra Jean Rothbauer of Colfax and and Douglas J. Boos of Chippewa Falls were married Feb. 7 at St. John’s Baptist Catholic Church in Cooks Valley.

Members of the Colfax FFA recently completed building six calf hutches and will raise six calves in them and sell the calves and hutches at the Colfax Fair with profits going to upgrade the buildings at the fairgrounds.

The Elk Mound boys won their first outright D-SC Conference championship since 1956 with an 86-66 win over Boyceville.

March 3, 1966

Mr. and Mrs. John D. Myers will observe their golden wedding anniversary March 6 with an open house at St. John the Baptist Church, Cooks Valley.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ellery Jensen, Jr. (nee Peggy Mannes)  at a Madison, Wisc. hospital Feb. 26.

A new daughter named Amy Zoe was born to Mr. and Mrs. Prescott M. Johnson of Chippewa Falls  Feb. 14.

Chosen from Colfax High to play in an all-star band concert sponsored by the St. Croix Valley Music Directors’ Association were  Jane and Janet Greenhill, Linda Mittelstadt and Sylvia Puhl.

February 22, 1951

A.C. Torgerson, president of the Peoples State Bank of Colfax, attended the funeral service of Otto Bremer, St. Paul financier, who passed away Sunday. Bremer was one of the early stockholders of the Peoples State Bank which was founded in 1915. In 1943, Mr. Bremer transferred three fourths of his entire estate to the Otto Bremer Foundation to be distributed to religious, educational, scientific or charitable organizations.

Our Colfax boys lost a close game in overtime 61-60 to the hands of the New Richmond team on a last second free throw by the Tigers. Playing the Chippewa Falls high powered team that is ranked fifth in the state, the speedy Vikings were ahead until the fourth period but lost 51-48. George Close scored 21 points in the two games.

March 17, 1916

A. C. Chase and his wife, who have given Colfax a good local paper for many years, have turned over the reins of government of that paper to D.M. Leicht, formerly of New Lisbon. Mr. and Mrs. Chase are now going to take life easy while the rest of us have to hustle for bread.

A daughter, their first born, came Sunday to gladden the home of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Tushil who live on a farm six miles east of here.

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. A. Nelson are mourning the loss of their youngest son, aged seven months, March 14, after a case of whooping cough developed into pneumonia.
