The Elk Mound village board of trustees is back at full strength after the appointment of Tom Clickner who replaces Josh Garr who resigned recently.

Receiving degrees during winter commencement from UW-Stout are Scott Krause, Alecia May, Brooke Miller, Derrick Oberle and Kristina Stearns from Colfax and Marie Gabert, Timothy Harrison, David Hoover, Nicole Putman and Kari Schamens of Elk Mound.

After trouncing Spring Valley by 30 points, the Colfax girls remain alone in first place in the conference with a 10-1 record. Kristen Laramy led the well-balanced Vikings with 12 points against the Cardinals.

Colfax seniors Dennis Kiekhafer and Jamie Leonard were crowned king and queen during the Winter Carnival dance.

Colfax Elementary Principal Gary Hoffman announced fifth grade students would be participating in the Dunn County Drug Abuse and Resistance Education (DARE) program this semester.

Colfax junior Brady Connell sank a 20 foot shot with just a few seconds left to lift the Vikings over Spring Valley 63-62. The win keeps the Vikings one game behind Elk Mound in conference play.

Wallace Knutson and Arnold Sudbrink, both formerly of the Colfax area, recently retired from the State Highway Patrol after many years of service.

A son, Kyle William, was born January 24 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire to Steven and Stephanie Nelson of Colfax.

Elk Mound youngsters Ron Best and Rod Fuller claimed titles at the annual Bloomer Speed Jumping contest January 31.

Three calls last Friday kept the Colfax fire department busy as they responded to chimney fires at the Harold Henneman home near Albertville and the Erling Peterson home north of town, and a kitchen/dining room fire at the Henry Knutson home, also north of the village.

Several new babies were born to the area including a daughter named Kimberly Jean on January 26 to Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Crowell of Eau Claire, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson on January 25, a daughter on January 28 to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Huff, a son named Robert Mark to Mr. and Mrs. James Ackerlund on January 24 and a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Carly Carlson on January 31.

Airman David G. Smestuen of Wheeler has been selected for training at Amarillo AFB, Texas as an Air Force administrative specialist.

January 25, 1951

The marriage of Elaine O. Metzger of Elk Mound and Harry Jensen of Rice Lake took place January 11 at the Elk Mound Lutheran parish.

Half the teachers in Wisconsin receive less then $2,794 for an annual salary according to the Wisconsin Educational Association. Colfax is doing their part to retain teachers by granting each teacher in the district a $100 bonus last year.

Frank Multerer, active Colfax sportsman for several years, has been elected president of the local Rod and Gun Club for the upcoming year.

February 18, 1916

The Men’s Club will serve an oyster supper in Rye’s hall next Monday evening. Cost is 25 cents to all.

Mr. and Mrs. F.H. Martin moved here from Bloomer and are domiciled in the Mrs. Moen house on south Main street. Mr. Martin is to assist Peter O. Peterson in the management of the Colfax Lumber Company.

Representatives of the Menomonie Agricultural school  came to town for a basket ball game but they come as far as being a basketball team as Teddy Roosevelt will, should he try to spear the Republican nomination this fall. Our local boys won by a final score of something like 47 to 11.
