BETTY MAE HELGESON

Betty Mae Helgeson was born on May 3, 1932 in Ellsworth Wisconsin to John and Alma (Gunderson) Stefon Jr. Betty was raised on a farm between Waverly and Rush River.

She went to the Maple Grove Country School. In 1942, Betty and her family moved to the Spring Valley area where she attended the Spring Lake country school for 3 years then moved into the Village of Spring Valley and completed her education with the class of 1950. Betty was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was confirmed there.

On November 26th 1949 Betty married Clifford Helgeson at the Parsonage in Spring Valley. They moved to his home farm south of Woodville. They farmed and raised their family there. In 1950, Betty joined Zion Lutheran Church and had been an active member at Zion. Betty worked with the Sunday School for many years as a teacher, secretary, treasurer, and superintendent. Betty always took part in the woman’s organization and Bible Study groups. In 1951, Betty became a member of the Woodville American Legion Auxiliary unit 301. Betty served as president for several years. Betty maintained membership since 1951.

Betty was a stay at home mother to her children until they were all out of school. In 1973, she took a job as a cashier at Indian Head Motor Plaza and continued as a cashier when Kwik Trip purchased it. She retired in 2012.

In 1981 Betty had cancer surgery. Clifford and Betty moved off the farm to a house across the road. Clifford went to his heavenly home in 1994 and Betty continued to live in their home.

Surviving family members: Daughters: Jean (Bill) Peavey, Janet (Mike) Pozarski, Mary (Ron) Hurtgen, Susan (Tom) Steinke, Grandchildren: Steve (Amy) Peavey, Scott (Katy) Peavey, Dustin (Sara) Hurtgen, Tony (Carrie) Steinke, Darrin (Jodi) Hurtgen, Christopher Pozarski, Sarah (Karl) Karau, Kari Steinke, Catherine (Nicholas) Connolly, Dana (Chris) Fullarton; Great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Peavey, Brevan Peavey, Lola Peavey, Ben Peavey, Landon Peavey, Dylan Karau, Janessa Karau, Trinity Karau, William Karau, Carter Connolly, Rhys Hurtgen, Malena Hurtgen, Brooks Hurtgen, Alivia Hurtgen , Cayden Steinke, Lucy Steinke; Sisters: Elna Cady, Joy (Jim) Spindler, Sandy (Dean) Madson; Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation was on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 3-7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Woodville. Funeral service was Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran. Pallbearers were Steven Peavey, Scott Peavey, Dustin Hurtgen, Darrin Hurtgen, Tony Steinke, and Christopher Pozarski.

Burial was in Lone Pine Cemetery, Woodville.
