Farm Bureau members attend 96th annual Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting

WISCONSIN DELLS — Close to 1,200 farmers and agriculturists from across Wisconsin attended the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation’s 96th Annual Meeting, Dec. 4-7 in Wisconsin Dells. Delegates from Dunn County included Carl Casper of Menomonie, Darryl Kovacik of Boyceville, Brian Douglas of Elk Mound, Geri Wolfe of Colfax and Marv Prestrud of Prairie Farm. Delegates from St. Croix County Farm Bureau were Dave Kruschke of New Richmond, Dean Mueller of Roberts and Greg Zwald of River Falls.

Member delegates set policy that will guide the legislative agenda for the state’s largest general farm organization over the next year. Resolutions submitted by farmers through their county organizations addressed topics of transportation funding, third party audits, wildlife and more.

Held in conjunction with the annual meeting, the annual Young Farmer and Agriculturists Conference provided over 520 young farmers and agriculturists (ages 18-35) from across the state with an opportunity to network with their colleagues and gain information to benefit their farms and families.

Numerous competitions are also held at the annual YFA conference. Leslie Svacina of Deer Park represented St. Croix County Farm Bureau as a top 4 finalist in the Excellence in Agriculture competition. The Excellence in Agriculture Award judges participants on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other civic and service organizations. Applicants must have derived a majority of their income from a non-production agribusiness enterprise for the past three years.

Attendees had the opportunity to hear from several excellent speakers including the Peterson Farm Brother, YouTube advocates who spoke about how they advocate for agriculture using entertaining and educational videos, Senator Ron Johnson who spoke about the prosperous, safe and secure America we live in and Dr. Lowell Catlett, regents professor of agriculture economics, who shared with the audience the economic outlook for agriculture and that “there has never been a better time to be involved in agriculture.”  The Farm Bureau Extravaganza took place on Saturday night, with illusionist Rick Wilcox providing the entertainment.
