GARY MARVIN VOLKMAN

Gary M. Volkman passed away on October 7, 2015 at the age of 73 in his home in Sequim, WA surrounded by his family.
Born February 16, 1942 in Eau Claire, WI to Mildred (Larson) and Marvin Volkman, Gary grew up helping his parents run the family meat packing plant. Following his graduation from Colfax High School in 1960 he joined the United States Army. In 1974 Gary moved to Bethel, AK, where he first worked for the City of Bethel and later for the State of Alaska, Department of Transportation until his retirement in 2004.
Gary was a hard working man his whole life, who was always there to help others. He loved going to work every day – flying to different villages in Alaska. In addition to his passion for flying, he was an avid reader, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling across the country with his beloved dog Rufus and cheering on his favorite team – the Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by his sister Karen (Volkman) Bramwell of Minneapolis, MN; brother Bryn Volkman of Newport, North Carolina; daughters, Jackie (Krenz) Ronnestrand of Bloomer, WI; Jeanne (Volkman) Smith of Bethel, AK; Jennifer Volkman of Bethel, AK; Brooke Volkman of Anchorage, AK; Lindsey Volkman of Eau Claire, WI; son Gary Bryn Volkman of Seattle, WA and many grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by parents Mildred and Marvin Volkman of Colfax, WI and granddaughter Dakota Volkman of Anchorage, AK.
