ROWLAND B. JOHNSON
Rowland B. Johnson, age 85, of Glenwood City, WI died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Glenhaven Inc. in Glenwood City, WI.
Rowland was born August 19, 1930 in Stillwater, MN to Carl Henry and Mabel Josephine (Anderson) Johnson.
He attended school in Stillwater, MN. Rowland served in the U.S. Army from August 27, 1948 to August 29, 1951 as a military police courier, having served in Austria, and briefly in Japan before his discharge as a CPL E-4.
Rowland married Whynelda Marie Burmester at Trinity Lutheran Church on June 20, 1953 in Glenwood City, WI. Rowland and Whynelda made their first home in Stillwater, MN, where he worked for Maple Island as a truck driver, which allowed him to see the country from coast to coast. They eventually moved to their farm in Glenwood City in November of 1969, where they farmed and started their own transportation business. He remained in Glenwood City until his death.
Rowland is preceded in death by his parents; sister: Rowaine Frerichs; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Lois Johnson, Edgar Frerichs, Karen Burmester, Dorthea Vogel, Oswald Vogel, Ted Burmester, Lydia Burmester & Eugene Stansbury.
Rowland is survived by his wife Whynelda Johnson; children: David Johnson (Debbie), William Johnson Sr. (Brenda), Perry Johnson (Debbie), Shelly Schmidt (Keith) and Ranei Johnson – Scholler (Edward); grandchildren: Joe Johnson (Mel), Cindy Ludtke (Terry), Todd Jacobson (Shannon), Phillip Jacobson (Bobbi Jo), Stacy Oberle, Brian Johnson (Jennifer), Anne Vaver (Brian), Kimberly Obermueller (Ronnie), William Johnson Jr. (Jessica), Adam Hamilton (Amy), Ben Hamilton (Sarah), Brock Hamilton (Michelle), Amanda Montgomery (Luke), Eric Schmidt (Jodi), David Schmidt (Kelle) Nick Schmidt, Angela Driedric (John), Joe Scholler (Jennifer) & Emma Jo Scholler; 44 great-grandchildren; brother Eldon Johnson; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Art Burmester, Erna Stansbury, Helen and Roger Stansbury. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday October 31, 2015 with Pastor Michael Main officiating. Interment of cremains will be at a later date at the National Cemetery in Spooner, WI. Friends may call at the Anderson Funeral Home in Glenwood City from two hours prior to services. The family would like to thank the staff at Parkview Nursing Home in Woodville and Glenhaven Inc. in Glenwood City for the wonderful care they provided to Rowland. A special thanks to Dr. Kohen and staff at the Minneapolis VA Hospital and to Dr. Farah and staff at Mayo Clinic Heaalth Systems in Glenwood City.
