Madison Bygd selected as Menomonie Optimist Club Youth of the Month
The Menomonie Optimist Club provides the Boyceville High School teaching staff with the opportunity to recognize the achievements and efforts of an outstanding senior student. The selected student is then recognized as the Youth of the Month.
Madison Bygd was selected to represent Boyceville High School as Youth of the Month for September. Madison is the daughter of Sadie and Kevin Bygd of Boyceville.
The program statement from the Menomonie Optimist Club describes the qualities and attributes that made Madison a great choice.
“The purpose of the Optimist Club is to develop optimism as a philosophy of life: to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs, to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of man, his community, and the world.”
To recognize her accomplishments there was an Awards Banquet held in Menomonie on September 30th. Madison’s parents and Boyceville High School Teacher Mr. Tim Engel attended the Awards Banquet. Mr. Engel had the opportunity to introduce Madison and talk about her achievements, both in school and our community. Madison has been a valuable leader, supportive team member and a positive role model for her peers. Madison is serving as the President for the Class of 2016. Madison has been very active in athletics playing both Volleyball and Softball. In 2015 she was selected as an All Conference Honorable Mention in Softball.
In addition to her leadership and athletics Madison has supported her school with extracurricular activities like Science Olympiad, Band and Drama productions. Madison has dedicated a great deal of time to the Science Olympiad team. She has earned seven regional medals, 6 state level medals and was the State Champion in 2015 for the “Disease Detectives” competition. Madison has also been involved in Pep Band, Marching Band and Concert Band as well as touring Europe in 2014 with the Wisconsin Ambassadors of Music program. The group toured and performed music all throughout Europe. She has also earned silver and gold awards at Solo Ensemble competitions. The Drama club has drawn Madison’s attention for the past four years as she has become an integral part of numerous plays and musicals.
Madison has also given back to her community. She has been pivotal in mentoring young athletes for summer Softball. She has also taken a Mission Trip to a Youth Gathering in Detroit to help with community service projects. Whenever she is asked to assist or lead on a project, Madison can always be counted on. Her academic focus, service to her community and commitment to leadership has made Madison a wonderful choice for the Optimist Award. Congratulations to Madison on being selected as an outstanding senior!
