Robert Haake of Colfax High School competed in the Future Business Leaders of America Phi Beta Lamda National Leadership Conference in Orlando, FL, and vied for top honors in the Network Concepts event.

Laura Schmidt of Eau Claire has been hired to teach middle school science for the Colfax School District.

Performing traditional country music for the weekly Music in the Park concert series were Nancy Odom along with Don and Gladys Tandberg.

Mary Packer found the Diamond in the Rough medallion during the 75th anniversary of First American Bank and won a 20-inch color TV as a reward.

Gary Bodenburg has been appointed to the Elk Mound school board, replacing Robert Chittendon who moved out of the district.

Kevin Gilbertson and Dave Dummer of Elk Mound High School attended the National FFA Conference in Washington, D.C.

Marvel J. Styer has announced her candidacy for Dunn County treasurer, running on the Republican ticket.

Members of the Straight Shooters bowling team, Inez Christianson, Tami Knutson and Jolene Albricht, won a rolloff to capture the Thursday Night Gutter Dusters league championship at the Viking Bowl.

Mary Ann Moen and Arthur Loew were married July 17 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Cooks Valley.

Miss Joan Higbie of Colfax and LeRoy Roen of Baldwin were united in marriage July 24.

Eunice Johnson of Colfax became the bride of J. Howard Peterson of Menomonie July 24 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie.

Mary Ellen Greenhill is a member of the 1965 graduation class of Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minn.

Playing for the East All Stars of the Dunn County League against the West All Stars, Colfax players were a big part of the 10-0 win for the eastern men. Vic Johnson was the winning pitcher and five of the ten hits for the east team were by Colfax men with two from Donnie Schneck and one each from Gordie Gilberts, Morrie Schneck and Johnson.

The marriage of Miss Laila Jenson and Mr. Harvey Melgaard, both of Colfax took place July 8 at the Bethany Lutheran Church of Minneapolis, Minn.

There will be a Grand Opening celebration for the new bridge on STH 170-across the Red Cedar River, July 28 at the bridge.

Rural school districts in the Colfax area voted strong in the “no” column to get out of the school consolidation which was put into effect about two years ago.

Arrangements have been made in which the J.H. Eschman World United Shows & Arizona Bill’s Real Wild West show will give performances in the afternoon and evening August 18 right here in our village.

Mrs. Henry Peterson of Running Valley died at her home July 29 of tuburculosis. She was born in Norway 32 years ago and leaves her husband and three small children to lament her untimely demise.
