EDWARD WILLIAM KAISER

Edward William Kaiser, age 88, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Bloomer.

Edward was born November 1, 1926 in Ridgeland, WI to Casper and Matilda (Schleusner) Kaiser. He was a kind, fun loving, gentle man who loved life and his extensive extended family. He loved telling stories of his life on the farm and will be sadly missed by all. During World War II, Edward (Ed), worked at the pea vinery in the Dallas/Ridgeland area where he worked alongside the German prisoners of war and also worked on the family dairy farm located in the Township of Sheridan, Ridgeland, WI.

On April 11, 1959, he married Alice Berends at St. John’s Catholic Church in Glenwood City, WI. After his father’s death in 1959 they took over the family dairy farm and farmed together for 36 years until her death on January 23, 1995. They received the Century Farm and Home award at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee in 1981. Along with dairy farming, Ed did many side jobs including working with his brother Walt installing barn cleaners and silo unloaders, assembled John Deere farm equipment for John Weber and worked for Ernie Delegard building pole sheds. Together they enjoyed many trips cross-country traveling with friends and family, going to church socials and dinners, eating out, playing cards, putting jigsaw puzzles together, gardening, campfires around the wood cutting piles and celebrating special occasions with relatives.

Ed enjoyed squirrel and deer hunting and making homemade sausage with his relatives. He loved all sports, played league dart ball with St. Paul’s and the Wilson Wildcats and followed the Brewers, Packers, Badgers and especially followed his nephews’ high school and college games. His passions were woodworking crafts and furniture and John Deere machinery and memorabilia.

On September 2, 1995, he married Clara (Matter) Bauer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood, WI and moved to Menomonie, WI. Together they visited many cemeteries in the area gathering data for his Kaiser and Schleusner and her Matter and Bauer genealogy. They enjoyed attending parades, going to thrift sales, eating out and visiting family and friends. Clara passed away on May 6, 2010.

Edward then moved back to an apartment in Ridgeland enjoying his daily lunch at the Dairyland Cafe with his friends, playing cards at the local Community Center and Friday night fish fries at Dutchman’s. In March 2014, he moved to the Dallas Rehab Center and in July moved to the Maplewood in Bloomer. He enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, going on outings, the musical entertainment and the good meals.
