In order to give the school board plenty of time to find a replacement, Colfax District Administrator Lee Bjurquist informed them during the June meeting he will retire after the 2005-06 school year.

Vince Ross has been hired as the new sixth grade teacher and boy’s varsity basketball coach at Colfax for the upcoming school year, Polly Rudi will serve as a special education teacher and Amy Poirier is the new Early Childhood teacher.

Colfax High School band instructor Jim Woodford has been named the new conductor of the Ludington Guard Band in Menomonie while local musicians  playing include Calinn Weber, Afton Erickson, Terri Knutson, Vicki Maves, Josh Myers, Dick Toycen and Joe Alms.

A son, Dylan Scott Luer, was born June 16 to Jamie and Jeff Luer of Boyceville.

Janet Ausman and Michael Brunner, both from Elk Mound, were married June 9 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elk Mound.

Colfax and Elk Mound boys combined to form a Colfax American Legion baseball team this summer which is coached by Jeff Prince.

Shari L. Hainstock and Lynn S. Johnson, both of Colfax, were married June 21 at Tainter United Methodist Church.

Patricia L. Mousel of Elk Mound and Robert L. Marlette of Boyceville exchanged wedding vows May 21 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elk Mound.

Bill Beyrer, age 21, of rural Colfax who farms on his own fulltime, has been nominated  for the American Farmer degree, FFA’s highest award.

Karen Piel of Augusta became the bride of  Michael Henderson of Colfax June 26 at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta.

Last week, Mrs. Kenneth Haugle ceased operation of Marion’s Cafe in Colfax and the Norman Kelms, owners of the building, currently are continuing the restaurant service there.

En route home from working on the youth project at Colfax, James L. Stuart, 17, was killed when the car he was driving left the road near the Gaylord Thornson home south of Colfax on Highway 40. Three other boys, Rodney Kragness and Bruce and Charles Smith were also injured in the accident.

At the North Running Valley Lutheran Church June 23, Levina Petra Arnevik became the bride of Abner Olson. Both are from the Colfax area.

Rachel Elizabeth Noer of Colfax and John Spencer of Anoka, Minn were married June 24 at Colfax Lutheran Church.

Colfax took two impressive baseball wins last week when Vic Johnson pitched a one hitter in a 2-0 win over the Wheeler team, then threw a four hit game in a 12-0 win against New Auburn.

At the annual meeting at the High School Tuesday evening, a general tax of $4,000 (the same as last year) was levied and E.B. Hill was re-elected to succeed himself as treasurer for the term of three years.

A Basket Social will be given July 10 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Abraham for the benefit of an organ at the German Lutheran Church. Ladies, bring baskets and gentleman, bring your pocketbooks.

One of the most notable events in the history of Cooks Valley occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.E. McWithey when the happy old couple renewed their marriage vows of fifty years ago.
