DOWNING — The state will convert the Wisconsin Highway 170 and St. Croix County Highway G intersection from a 3-way stop to a 4 way stop next week. The intersection is located on the Dunn/St. Croix County Line at the west village limits of Downing.
According to Christine Ouellette, Communication Manager for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, “Proactive intersection improvements are being made due to increased east-to-west traffic volume and limited vision from the east portion of 170. A new stop sign, and stop ahead, sign will be added to the northern portion of the 170 intersection. Drivers traveling to 170 east entering the intersection from the north should be prepared to stop,” the news release states.
In addition, all-way stop plaques will be added at all four intersections approaches. The current “right turn no stop,” sign for Wisconsin 170 westbound traffic will be removed. The DOT said motorists should be aware of expected changes and prepare to come to a compete stop.
