Allen Kerr, age 84 of Wilson, Wisconsin died Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Park View Home in Woodville after a courageous battle with cancer.
Allen Lee Kerr was born May 1, 1931 in Glenwood City, WI to Francis and Inga (Kildahl) Kerr. He was the first born of 12 children. He grew up in rural Glenwood City and attended school to the 8th grade.
On August 20, 1960 he married Dorothy Nygaard at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They first made their home in Glenwood City and in 1966 purchased their farm in Wilson, Wisconsin where they have remained living for 49 years. Over the years Allen raised pigs and beef cattle along with many dogs and cats. His true passion was horses and he furthered that passion by pulling first ponies in competitions then decided to go bigger so he purchased draft horses and continued pulling in competitions for years. Usually always placing and many times winning first place. He was a member of the Midwest Farmers Horse Pulling Association.
Allen was a construction worker and his job in the earlier years took him to New York where he helped build the St Lawrence Seaway. He retired from George W Olsen Construction as a Carpenter’s Superintendent, after 33 years.
He was not a man to just sit around. If he wasn’t at a horse pull, you could find him either outside tinkering with something, working the fields, tending to his animals, attending auctions, or enjoying a cup of coffee or a cold beer and shaking dice while visiting with friends. Allen also loved to play cards, and many hours of fun were had with family and friends. In the past he also enjoyed fishing trips around Wisconsin and Canada, ice fishing, deer hunting, and taking a ride on his snowmobile or ATV.
