On April 23, By  3-2 vote, the Dunn County Planning, Resources and Development committee approved the town of Hay River’s petition to amend a Dunn County Ordinance that permits the construction of ethanol plants in industrial districts.

Mayor DeBehnke introduced the new city clerk-treasurer, Lisa Berends, at the Glenwood City Common Council meeting. Berends will take over her duties on May 16.

Matt Buetow and Mikaela Boley were crowned King and Queen during the 2005 Prom at Boyceville on April 30.

Terrance (Porky) Klinger will become Glenwood City’s twentieth mayor next Monday night at the 7 p.m. organizational meeting of the City Council. He defeated two write-in candidates in last Tuesday’s election.

The Boyceville Village Trustee race, incumbents, Joan Bisson and Gilbert Sykora were re-elected and Maynard Pittman to his first term as a trustee. Pittman will take Joan Palmer’s seat.

Carra Lingerfelt, 22 of Glenwood City, died of neck injuries when the pickup truck she was driving left Highway 128 Sunday morning. The vehicle came down a hill, leaving the road, struck a field driveway and overturned.

The Glenwood City fire department responded to two grass fires this past week, both were started by children playing with matches. One was on the Earl Villman farm on County Highway E on April 7, and the other on April 8th on the Cheryl Nelson property on County Highway E.

Warren B. Oskey, of Bay City, Wisconsin, has purchased the interest of H. R. Lexvold in the First State Bank of Glenwood and took over the management of the bank on May 26. The Oskeys also purchased the Lexvold home on Pine street, but do not plan to move here until about the middle of August.

Roberta Limberg was appointed in 1964 to be the Grand Chaplain of the Grade chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Wisconsin, and a reception on program in her honor will be held on Sunday afternoon, June 6.

A new score board was presented to the Glenwood City baseball team by the Coca Cola Bottling Co. The new board was used for the first time Saturday.

At a special meeting of the Board of Education, Saturday evening, May 14, Mr. Duane R. Ahlf of Pittsville, Wis., was elected as the new Superintendent of Jt. School District No. 1, City of Glenwood and Towns of Glenwood, Emerald, Springfield and Baldwin.

The Glenwood City High School will hold its 1955 Commencement exercises Tuesday evening, May 24, at which time 50 seniors will take part.

The United States Public Health Services has cleared the Salk vaccine for immediate use. The vaccine will be given at the centers during the weeks of May 23 and June 13.

The Town of Glenwood has purchased an International tractor for road work, and chairman Van Ranst states that it will probably be unloaded this week.

An important transaction in local banking circles took place this week when M.F. Baker, A.J. VanderHiden, P.A. Beebe, H. L. Payne and Edward Gavic purchased of D.C. Coolidge the large block of stock which he owned the First State Bank. This makes the First State a strictly home institution. It has a total of 47 stockholders, 75% of whom are substantial farmers living in this vicinity.

For Sale: Forty Acres located midway between Downing and Boyceville. This forty lays in a very fine neighborhood. Nearly all of the farm is under cultivation. Buildings consist of a 4-room frame house newly painted and re-shingeled and in good condition, horse barn, cattle barn, chicken house, hay barn,  and woodshed and tool house. Price: $4,000.

The commencement ceremony of the Boyceville High School Class of 1975 will be held Friday, May 16, at 8 p.m.

Chief Dow reported on Monday that the Boyceville Fire Department is loaning the Spring Valley Department the old No. 1 pumper until they can secure equipment. A fire last Sunday afternoon destroyed they department building, trucks. etc.

The ex-Marine, Kelly Stevens, hit the first home run of the season and this power hitter is picked to lead the league in this department. Who hit the second homer? Certainly, another of the Harvey Stevens family  – Big Tim. About his brother hitting one first Tim said, “The only reason he did it was because he came up to bat before I did.”
