CAROLE JO DUCE

Carole Jo Duce, 77 of rural Boyd serendipitously 3 years ago to the day, May 2, 2015 joined her true soulmate of 62 years, Wayne M. Duce, to dance among the heavens. She was surrounded by her loving family, with the fresh country breeze off of Tippee Canoe Lake scented with her Spring flowers and the sounds of birds and her honey bees in her ears.

She was born on September 5, 1937 in rural Boyd, the daughter of the late Lawrence & Nina Julianna (Fredricksson) Lodahl. She was the firstborn of thirteen, and grew up in God’s country of rural Boyd, Wisconsin and graduated from Stanley High School in 1955. Carole married the love of her life Wayne M. Duce on September 16, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Yellow River.

The couple moved to Milwaukee until 1957 when they moved south of Stanley. The family survived the traumatic tornado of 1958, with the reminder of the scars on Carole’s head. They moved into Stanley where she worked at the Stanley Clinic for Drs. Overgaard & Mathwig. In 1972 she graduated from Steven’s Point Technical College with her practical nursing license.  She assisted doctors in the states of Wisconsin, Colorado and Hawaii.

In 1978 Carole, Wayne & youngest son John, started a new adventure in southwest Colorado. They created countless memories for friends and family in the San Juan Mountains. Carole traveled throughout all 50 states, as well as Canada, Mexico & her family’s origin of Norway & Sweden. She always took time to stop and smell the flowers along her way.

They then moved back to Wisconsin to Colfax & finally back to their roots in Boyd.  Carole & Wayne made numerous trips across the country and Carole was a snowbird in Florida for 17 years, the last three with her Pekingese dog Patrick by her side. Carole always had a sunny smile and hug for everyone she met. She loved to celebrate life through her friends and family, gardens & flowers pollinated by her honey bees. Many a jar of “Gram’a Carole’s Honey” has been shared & enjoyed.

Carole is survived by five children, Julie (Darrell) Richard of Boyd, WI & Kwethluk, AK; Randy (Laura) Duce of Cologne, MN; Steve (Becky) Duce of Ridgway, CO; LaVonne Duce Burns of Colfax, WI; John (fiancée Kathy Royle) Duce of Boyd, WI, twelve grandchildren, Nyna Julianna (Jeromie), Jesse Wayne(Alyssa) and Ian (Mikki) Richard, Dana (Dan) Gavin, Eva, Heidi Jo, and Steven Duce, Tiffany (fiancée Jesse Novotnak), Justin (Melissa) and Brittney Carole Acker, Kyle and Derek (Rachel) Duce, five great-grandchildren, Adelyn Acker, Madelyn Duce, Kendyl Acker, August Power and Daniel Richard, step grandchildren Jeff (Rana), Kelsi (Matt), and Tessa Scanlon and Kyle Travis, Jessica (Sam) Smelter, Jordan (Adrienne) Burns and three on the way.
