Helmer C. “Bub” Hurtgen, age 84 of Downing, WI died Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Glenhaven, Inc. in Glenwood City, WI.
Bub was born August 19, 1930 in Emerald, WI to Raymond and Martha (Johnson) Hurtgen. After his schooling he served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from July 1951 to April 1953. Upon his return, he farmed and drove milk truck. Bub married Connie Meacham January 30, 1954. They continued to farm and Bub also drove school bus for many years. He served many years on the Downing village board as president, board member and trustee.
Bub is preceded in death by his parents, brother Carl, sister Mona, infant brother and sister Raymond Jr. and Judith.
Bub is survived by his wife Connie Hurtgen; son and daughter William Hurtgen and wife Lori, Peggy Heutmaker and special friend Rick Bonte; grandchildren Jennifer Heutmaker-Holden and husband Greg, Jolene Hurtgen and fiancé Tom Dikeman, Jason Heutmaker and fiancé Amy Smith, Kathy Casper and husband Brad, Kristin Hurtgen and special friend Chris Bien and Theresa Lyons and husband Jacob; great-grandchildren Alexa and Avery Holden, Harli Dikeman, Isabella Peterson, Ty Casper and Cheyenne Lyons; brothers and sister Nola Bazille, Joe Hurtgen and wife Ellen, Brian Hurtgen and wife Marleen and Henry Hurtgen and wife Ruth. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Downing, WI with reverend Mary Beth Scow officiating. Burial was in the Mound Cemetery Downing, WI. Local arrangements by the Anderson Funeral Home in Glenwood City, WI.
