Danny Varnes, running back from Colfax High School,will play football at UW-Eau Claire next fall, according to Todd Hoffner, head coach of the Blugolds.

After winning their first round regional game 55-46 over Bloomer, the Colfax boys lost to top seeded Eau Claire Regis 60-51, while Elk Mound lost in the first round 60-49 to Chippewa Falls McDonell.

Rachel Woolever, Colfax senior, is the new career leader and single season leader in three point field goals for the Vikings, finishing her three years of varsity play with 132 three-baggers with 52 her junior year.

Kelly Maureen McCarthy of Phillips and John Neal Bates, Jr. were married Oct. 28 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Phillips.

Representing Elk Mound on the All Conference basketball team for the boys were Kyle Jenson and W. J. Vincent both second team, and for the girls, Renae Rhude and Jenny Prause were first team and Jill Erpenbach was honorable mention.

Jodi Bosch was the lone representative for the Colfax girls to the All Conference team while Chris Stoffel and Pan Parzyck were named to the boys team. All three were first team picks.

Colfax fifth grader Ryan Wolf was the winner of the elementary/junior high spelling bee for the school.

A daughter, Amanda Ruth, was born Feb. 25 to Ron and Peggy Krueger of Colfax.

After beating Elk Mound during the regular season twice, both in close games, the Colfax boys, with an 18-0 record, lost to the  Mounders 53-51, ending the Viking’s season in the sub-regional game. Elk Mound went on to beat Glenwood City but lost to Osceola in the regional final.

The Colfax village board approved sanding, painting and general refinishing of the village’s water tower at a cost of $7,750.

A daughter named Jaqueline Kay was born March 10 to Mr. and Mrs. John Sundby of Route 1, Colfax.

Airman Apprentice Kenneth B. Prive, USN, of Elk Mound, graduated Feb. 9 from Aviation Boatswain’s Mate School at the Naval Air Technical Training Unit, Philadelphia, Pa.

Colfax eighth grader Brenda Fjelsted placed first in the school’s Spelling Bee contest and will now compete at the Dunn County level.

Miss Betty Felland of Colfax is a member of the Augsburg Choral Club of Augsburg College, Minneapolis and appeared with the club in a concert at Hudson High School last week.

Colfax High School failed to give a very impressive display of basketball in dropping two out of three games at the Eau Claire sub-regional tournament last week. Colfax dumped Stanley in the first game 43-to 39 in overtime then lost to Thorp 43-32 and to Chippewa Falls 62-36.

The Heart Fund drive in Colfax netted the sum of $40.78. according to Legion Commander Martin S. Olson.

At the Free Lutheran parsonage in Running Valley March 11, occurred the marriage of Miss Emma Gunderson to Mr. Henry Gjesvold.

G.A. Harsh has his new moving picture theater, called the “Joy Theater”, ready and is to open up to the public next Monday with two shows.

Lars E. Roen, age 66, former proprietor of the Colfax Hotel, died at his late home in Minneapolis March 13 from locomotor ataxia, having been an invalid for about nine years.
