Seniors Josh Meyers and Afton Erickson were named king and queen at the Colfax High School Winter Carnival dance. Scott Johnson and Heidi Peterson were named Mr. and Ms. Colfax during Winter Carnival week.

The Colfax boys’ basketball team swept Elk Mound in regular season games for the first time since the early 1990s with a 49-40 win. Jake Harder led the Vikings with 18 points while Ryan Schumacher scored 12 for the Mounders.

1998 Glenwood City graduate and University of Minnesota football player Joe Quinn has been signed by the Packers and will begin playing for their NFL Europe team this spring.

Joining the staff at First American Bank of Colfax is Harold Simpson, assistant vice -president and loan review officer.

Russell Kothlow recently completed 30 years with the postal service as a rural mail carrier, including the last 15 of those years in rural Elk Mound.

Elk Mound won their sixth straight boys’ basketball game with a 94-68 win over Elmwood and an 82-81 win against Spring Valley. Kyle Jenson hit the winning three point shot with three seconds left to beat the Cardinals.

Mr. and Mrs. Alan Smith, Eau Claire, are the parents of a girl, Megan Jane, born Feb. 6.

A son, Steven Edward, was born to Jeffery and Patty Young Jan. 30 at Werth Medical Center, Menomonie.

Three Bohnen brothers made it through the regional wrestling tournament and will compete at sectionals next week. Shane placed first while Ian and Evan were both second. According to head coach Ken Mueller, this is the first time Colfax has had three wrestlers make it to sectionals.

A daughter was born Feb. 15 to Pastor and Mrs. Paul Ronning of Farmington, Minn. She has been named Gracia Marie.

Miss Karen Holm of Colfax and Thomas Berkner of Red Wing, Minn. were married Jan. 16 at the Trinity Episcopal Church at River Falls, Wis.

Colfax High School has announced Judy Linstedt is the valedictorian and Donna Higbie is the salutatorian for the Class of 1965.

February 16, 1950

Jimmy Hjort will represent the Colfax High School at the District American Legion oratorical contest at Eau Claire March 3.

Miss Ruth Marie Gregory of Colfax and Donald Ray Gochnour of Everett, Pa. were married Jan. 28 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas.

The Colfax Cooperative Creamery payroll for the year exceeded $180,000 with most of that money spent in Colfax. The creamery pays about one eighth of all the taxes in the village.

February 26, 1915

Peter O. Peterson, manager of the Colfax Lumber Company, was finishing a delivery north of the village when his horse became unmanageable going down a steep grade. Mr. Peterson jumped off to save himself but the horse took to the sidewalk, breaking down one of the pillars under the viranda in front of the Colfax Hotel. The horse then ran back to the lumber yard and stopped, apparently satisfied with the results.

Last Friday evening it was discovered Lewis Rowe’s wagon shop was on fire but by a quick response by the fire company, the blaze was soon under control.  Considerable damage was done to the floor and some of the stock.
