Randy Steinke of Colfax placed fourth in the 440 Open Free Air Modified Class at the Loadmaster Classic Vintage World Championships snowmobile racing competition on the oval track at Eagle River Jan. 7-9.
Dennis Brown, age 48 of Colfax, was killed in a logging accident in the Town of Grant Jan. 12 when a tree fell on him while conducting logging operations.
After sinking four three pointers in the win over Elmwood, Rachel Woolever became the fourth Colfax girl to make over 100 three point shots during her basketball career.

Colfax High School principal Bill LaRue announced he will be retiring at the end of the school year. LaRue started with the district in 1957.
A 51-38 victory over Spring Valley gave Elk Mound girls’ head coach Ted Heimstead his 100th coaching win, all with the Mounders.
In boy’s action, Colfax defeated Elk Mound 58-52 with Chris Stoffel scoring 21 points to lead the Vikings while W.J. Vincent scored 22 for the Mounders.

Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Helgeson of Colfax announce the birth of a son, David Darwin born Jan. 12.
Mr. and Mrs. James Rude, Chugiak, Alaska, are the parents of a daughter, Jennifer Lynn, born Dec. 15.
It took two overtimes before the Colfax boys came up with a win over Elk Mound 67-60. The Mounders, under first year head coach Dan Pederson, were led by Bruce Myers with 28 points while Robbie Railton and Tim Prince both scored 16 for the Vikings. A technical foul called on Railton for stepping off the court while talking to coach Dick Diener allowed the Mounders to go ahead 54-52 in regulation but Railton tied the game with a shot to send it into the first overtime.

Kenneth Roger Davey, a Colfax student at the University of Wisconsin, has been awarded sophomore honors for the excellence of his work in the College of Letters and Science.
George DeLaitsch, Jr., formerly of Colfax, is now instructor in mathematics and chemistry at Wilson High School in St. Paul, Minnesota.
A smooth working Spring Valley team came to town Saturday night and took Colfax into camp, 55 to 39. Clyde Prince led both teams in scoring with 17 points.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Baldrige of Poplar Creek, a daughter, Jan. 20.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Will Winget of Fox Settlement last Friday, Jan. 22.
With the mercury at 45 degrees below zero yesterday morning, we were reminded that Winter was with us in full force.
Tilla Sofie Sivertson, age 22, departed this life Jan. 23 after a prolonged illness. Her funeral was held at Holden Lutheran Church last Thursday.
