Alva D. Speros, age 77, passed away Sunday evening, December 15th, 2014 at Oakwood Villa in Altoona, WI with family by her side.

Alva (Misselt) Speros was born to this world on February 13th, 1937 to parents Christian and Dagna (Holte) Misselt in the Town of Otter Creek, Dunn County, Wisconsin.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Hay River Lutheran Church. During her grade school years she attended The Little Otter Creek School and the Misselt School located in Otter Creek, Wisconsin. She went on to attend Colfax High School where she was a very adept and active student participating in many extracurricular activities including the Colfax High School Band and Cheerleading troupe. She graduated in May of 1955 and subsequently moved to Eau Claire where she met and married Angelo Speros, with whom she shared 51 years before his passing in December of 2013. She worked in Eau Claire in various retail and clinical positions including several years at Samualsons Department Store in downtown Eau Claire and eventually retiring in 1992 after 22 years as a medical assistant with the Medical Eye Clinic of Eau Claire.

Alva, along with her husband ‘Angie’, found special satisfaction in helping to provide for abandoned and mistreated animals and enjoyed caring for and spoiling many special pets of their own.

Coming from a family of 10 siblings, Alva is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and her brother, Gordon Misselt of Oregon. She is preceded in death by her husband Angelo Speros as well as sisters: Inez (Peterson), Wanda (Ganther), Irma (Ottinger), Frances (Frandsen), Beverly (Kirchoff), Rhoda (Pappas), brothers: Phillip and Clinton Misselt. Also her parents, Christian and Dagna Misselt, nephews Duane and James Peterson and niece Donna Knusalla.

Thank you to many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends who checked on and visited with Alva, helping to keep her spirits up as her mobility and health declined. Special thanks to long time family friend Tom Sherman for his faithful attention to many ongoing needs both around the home and during Alva’s residency at Oakwood Villa.

Funeral services will take place at 2 pm on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Brandt officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home an hour prior to the service. Burial will take place immediately following the service in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Alva’s name to the Chippewa or Eau Claire County Humane Association.
