Tate Russell and Haley Hanson to compete in Starquest 2014 Finals

EAU CLAIRE – Tate Russell, a 13-year-old eighth grader at Colfax Middle School, and Haley Hanson, a 16-year-old junior at Boyceville High School, will compete in the finals of the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre’s eleventh annual Starquest competition on Saturday, December 6, at 7:30 p.m., at The Oxford, 1814 Oxford Avenue, Eau Claire.  Russell is the son of Steve and Kobi Shaw of Colfax, and Haley is the daughter of Warren and Amy Hanson of Downing.

Inspired by the popular TV show “American Idol,” the event is a vocal competition for youth ages 18 and under.  Forty-two area youth entered this year’s contest and competed in the preliminary round on Saturday, November 8.  The competition, sponsored in part by I Heart Media Eau Claire and Century 21:  Mary Rufledt, is open to youth in two categories, ages 14-18 and ages 13 and under, and performers were judged on vocal ability, presentation, and professionalism by a panel of area music and theatre professionals.  Ten finalists in the 13 and Under category and eleven in the 14-18 group were chosen to compete at the Starquest 2014 finals on December 6.  At the event, a new panel of judges will determine a winner and runner-up in each category.

Miss Wisconsin 2014 Raeanna Johnson will emcee Starquest 2014.  Last year’s Starquest winners, Rachel Hershman, a 17-year-old senior at North High School, and 14-year-old Greta Kernkamp, a Memorial High School freshman, are also scheduled to perform.
