Voter turnout in Colfax Nov. 2 was the largest in 20 years according to John Jahr, clerk-treasurer for the village with 580 ballots cast in the village.
Elk Mound ended their football season with a third round playoff loss, 40-10 to Somerset and finished the season with an 11-1 record.
Marvin and Charlotte Cartwright of Elk Mound, recently wrote a book titled “History of Elk Mound, WI”.

Nov. 9, 1989
Elk Mound’s football team will play for a Division 5 state championship against Hilbert after defeating Edgar 13-12 in Thorp. The Mounders took advantage of two Edgar mistakes, leading to two Randy Paulson touchdown runs and his extra point kick in a game played in several inches of snow.
A daughter, Kirsten Hanni Hoffman was born Oct. 27 to Gary and Randi Hoffman of Colfax.
Colfax football players named to the All Conference team include Mark Hagberg, Chris Stoffel, Mitch Bergeson, Dave Edwards, Brett Filstrup, Derek Horn, Loren Bergeson and Josh Gullicksrud.
Named to the All Conference football team from Elk Mound were Jesse Zurbuchen, Randy Paulson, Charlie Storing, Aaron Stamm, T.J. Zimbauer, Mike Hanson, Zach Dodge, W.J. Vincent, James Truog and Trevor Linberg.
All Conference volleyball players from Colfax were Jodi Bosch, Tina Lloyd, Stacy Bjurquist and Vicki Johnson.

According to Colfax School District Administrator Richard Martzke, this year’s budget is about 18 percent above last year’s and approximately $100,000 over the cost control limit.
Colfax village trustees voiced their support for a fund drive seeking to raise money for a new livestock building at the Colfax Fairgrounds, but stopped short of making a village commitment to the project.
Despite winning the conference championship, Kari Kressin was the only Colfax player to be named to the first team of the All Conference volleyball team while Kathy Thompson, Janet Rothbauer and Jodi Knudson were named honorable mention.

A fine crowd was on hand Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Area Nursing Home site for the ground breaking ceremony for the proposed home.
Members of the Colfax FFA including Rodney Kragness, James Irwin, David Larson and Dave Buchner attended a Leadership Training Clinic at Bloomer High School.
Mrs. Harold Kreutzer of the Little Elk Creek 4-H Club was elected president of the State 4-H Leaders Council for 1965.

Donna Randahl and Juel Stalson were married at Stilwater, Minnesota on October 24.
A reminder to shoppers the stores in town will all be closed at noon on Friday, Nov. 11 for the usual observation of Armistice Day.
“Most Valuable Football Player Award” given by Tulberg’s Clothing Store in Colfax went to senior Dave Stansbury. He was presented with a brown Brewster sport shirt and a very nice necktie.

Last Saturday afternoon dozens of Mrs. T. Leach’s lady friends had been invited to her home to help celebrate her 72nd birthday.
There will be a shooting match for Geese and Turkey at the Simon Ingebretson farm, five miles east of town tomorrow. Come prepared to get your share of the birds.
