DONALD A. BURLING, SR.
Donald A. Burling, Sr., age 79, of Hillsdale, WI died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at his home.
He was born February 17, 1935 to George & Cora (Jones) Burling in Dunn County, WI. On January 16, 1954, he was married to Ruth Ann Olson at Colfax & she preceded him in death on December 11, 1970. On October 26, 1975, he was married to Joyce Smith at Urne, WI. They are longtime members of New Scandinavia Lutheran Church & served as church custodians for over 25 years. Don worked for Jerome Foods, now the Turkey Store, in Barron for 44 years before declining health forced him to retire. He enjoyed gardening, deer hunting, fishing & just being outdoors. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer & Wisconsin Badger fan.
In addition to his first wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Matthew Burling, brothers: Leonard & Orven Burling & sisters: Rose Smith, Violet Smith & Arretta Snyder. He is survived by his wife: Joyce of Hillsdale, sons: Dale (Diane) Burling of Wishek, ND, George Burling of Independence, LA, Donald Burling, Jr. of Rice Lake, Paul (June) Burling of Clark, WY, Tom (Sandra) Burling of Independence, LA & James (Lynn) Burling of Hubert, NC, daughters: Jane (Clarence) Wicken of Chetek & Donna Burling of Arab, AL, step-daughter: Kim (Ray) Matton of Rice Lake, 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1st at New Scandinavia Lutheran Church in the Town of Maple Grove, rural Dallas with Pastor Dale Burling officiating & interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday & also for the hour prior to services Saturday both at the church. Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Dallas & Cameron.
