Doris M. Teigen, 91, of Glenwood City, WI died Thursday September 25, 2014 at Glenhaven Inc. in Glenwood City, WI.
Doris Marie Goossens was born October 13, 1922 to John and Mary (DeSmith) Goossens in Emerald, WI. At one year of age and the death of her mother, she was raised by her grandparents John and Sylvia DeSmith in rural Glenwood City. She graduated from the Glenwood City High School with honors in 1940. She worked as a clerk for the Farmers Store during her Junior and Senior years of school and after graduating. Later she went to work at the Daylight Store and Henness DeSmith Stores.
Doris married Marvin Teigen on February 22, 1941 and together they farmed in Barron, Dunn and St. Croix Counties where they raised their four children, Lee, Scott, Jeanne and Dean. She held several office titles from Our Saviors, Faith & Holy Cross Lutheran Churches, 4-H Club, Glen Hi Riders saddle club, Glenhaven Auxilary, Glenwood City Senior Center, Council on Aging of St Croix. She was chairperson for Holy Cross Lutheran Church quilters for several years, producing many quilts for the needs locally and around the world. In 2003 she was given and Outstanding Senior Citizen award through St. Croix County.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Marvin in 1993, parents, grandparents, brothers Lawrence, Clarence, John, Delmar and Ronald and daughter-in-law Kristi Teigen.
Doris is survived by three sons and daughter Lee (Trish) Teigen of Oshkosh, WI, Scott (Becky) Teigen, Dean (Jennifer) Teigen both of Glenwood City, WI, Jeanne Krizan (John Cameron) of Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada; grandchildren Kimberly (Gary) Ross, Stephanie (Jeremy) Nichols, Travis Teigen, Brian (Laura) Teigen, Joe & Kollie Teigen, Daniel & Diana Krizan; great-grandchildren Ian & Connor Ross, Jack & Charlie Nichols, Oslo & Odin Teigen; sister Myrna Larson of Baldwin, WI; brothers Jerry (Audrey) Goossens of Baldwin, WI and Terry Goossens of Glenwood City, WI; sisters-in-law; Shirley Goossens of St. Paul, MN, Arlene Goossens of Baldwin, WI, Marlene Goossens of New Richmond, WI, and Lucille Teigen of Glenwood City, WI; and special friend Jennie Connolly. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2014 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Glenwood City with Reverend Diane House officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Glenwood Cemetery Glenwood City. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.. Local arrangements by the Anderson Funeral Home of Glenwood City, WI. Memorial preferred in lieu of flowers to Holy Cross building or endowment funds.
