Bernadene E. Menter, age 84, of Wilson, Wisconsin died early Monday morning on September 15, 2014 at her home in Cady Township.

Bernadene was born September 6, 1930, the daughter of Lyle and Esther (Moll) Britton in Spring Lake Township, Wisconsin. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in St. Paul at the same time as her son John. She was a long time member of Wilson Lutheran Church and most recently a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Wilson.

Bernadene attended Elmwood Schools, graduating with the Class of 1948. On December 31, 1949 Bernadene married George Menter at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hatchville, Wisconsin. She worked in an office in St. Paul after high school until they started a family. She worked for the post office in Wilson for several years. She also served as the Cady Town clerk and was sexton of Spring Lake Cemetery for many years. She enjoyed family and friends, music, gardening and canning, cards, attending church, and so many more things. Most of all, she enjoyed people.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband George; infant sister Barbara Ann Britton; brothers Vernon ‘Bud’ Britton and Milton ‘Mickey’ Britton’; sister Audrey Donndelinger; and stillborn granddaughter Shannon Christine Menter.

Survivors include four sons: John (Rhonda Lewis) Menter of Danbury, Wisconsin; Tom (Mary) Menter of Hudson; Scott (Sue) Menter of St. Paul; and David (Isabelle) Menter of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren: Tara (Dan) Williams of Belgium, Wisconsin; Ryan (Courtney) Menter of Roberts; and Joshua Menter of Minneapolis; one step-grandson Jeremy Chevallier of Phoenix, Arizona; six great grandchildren: Owen, Brett, Kieran, and Megan Williams, and Makenna and Natalie Menter; one sister Lois Meier of Menomonie, one brother Roger Britton of Spring Valley; two brothers-in-law: Allen (Phyllis) Menter of Faith, S.D.; and Joe Menter of Knapp; many other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Bernadene was on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley. Funeral service was on Friday, September 18 at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Wilson with Rev. Les Johnson officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Hersey, Wisconsin.

Pallbearers were Bernadene’s sons John, Tom, Scott and David; brother Roger Britton; and grandson Ryan Menter.
