Charles William Ford, age 86, of Woodville, formerly of Frederic and Downing, died Monday, July 21, 2014 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

Charles was born September 4, 1927 in Menomonie, Wisconsin, one of twins born to Elsie and Louie Ford. His younger years were spent in Lucas Valley on Highway 29. He attended Sunny Side School. When he was 7, the family moved to Young Green Farm near Downing where he attended the Irish Ridge School

On May 25, 1947 he married Alicemaree Ward. They lived and worked on his parent’s farm for a short time until he took sick with undulant fever and doctors told him he needed to leave the farm. Over the next 10 years Charles had many jobs. He worked the ore docks in Lake Superior, construction work in Milwaukee, and built his first chimney in Beloit. He finally got a job at the Meadow Gold Plant in Beloit. In 1957 he was able to transfer to Sanna Dairies in Menomonie.

While in Downing he worked at the Dairy, had a hobby farm, cut trees and built chimneys and took on roofing jobs, all to support his family.

In August of 1987 Charles retired and spent the next 20 years wintering in the south with his wife, Alice. Charles loved to Square Dance, and they did square dancing for more than 40 years. For 10 years they co-owned a home on Spirit Lake with Frank and Eleanor McReynolds.

They were members of the Downing Methodist Church and in 2002 became members of the Lewis Church. In 2013 Charles and Alice moved to Senior Living in Woodville, Wisconsin. Charles spent his adult life with a heart defect. He never let it interfere with his work or his dreams.

He was preceded in death by his twin sister Charlotte, and his parents Elsie and Louie Ford, stepmother Nellie Ford, and nephews Rodney Anacker, Chris Ward, Steven Stang, and niece Sally Hanson

Charles is survived by his wife Alice; his children: Skip (Gloria), Kathy (Terry), Chuck (Joan), Mary (Paul), and Lisa (Craig). His grandchildren: Eli (Tammy), Brian (Jessica), Joe (Mandy), Sueann Meskill, Lina (Tim), Andy (Dawn). Amy (Michael), Monica (John), Michael (Jamie). Chad, Josh, Ian (Amber), Kim, Sara (Daniel). Alycia (Scott), Emily. His great grandchildren: Cullen, Caleb, Brayden, Hope, Faith, Christopher, Alex, Cameron, Alexandra, Carter, Alaina, Caiden, Jo Dean, Austin, Bella, Kale, Myla, Eva, Montana, Ruby, Eve, Max, Hazel, Lily, Asa, Henry George, Kieran, Henry Graham.

Funeral service was on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Downing United Methodist Church, Downing, Wisconsin with Pastor Mary Beth Scow officiating. Visitation was from 1-3 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial was in Mound Cemetery, Downing.

Pallbearers were Eli Ford, Joe Ford, Michael Ford, Josh Joles, Chad Joles, Andy Bogenrief, and Ian Joles.
