During the budget review prior to the regular Colfax School Board meeting, there was a projection of a 2.8 percent increase in expenditure for the upcoming year over the past year, mainly due to increases in staff salary and benefits.

Jim Kiesow, district director of instruction, director of special education and assessment coordinator for Colfax, gave written notice of his plans to retire to the school board.

Mark Mosey, a biology teacher at Colfax, has volunteered to lead efforts to maintain the banks of 18 Mile Creek that flows behind his house.

Lt. Shane Bohnen of Colfax and Robin Rowe of California were married June 3 at Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala in California.

Michael O’Mara of Elk Mound and Dorothy Ableidinger of Mondovi were married June 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mondovi.

A son, Nicholas James Ziebell was born July 4 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire to Patrick and Judy Ziebell.

A daughter, Amanda Rose Seehaver was born June 29 to Tom and Rose Seehaver of Glenwood City.

A son, Colin Alan Peterson, was born July 3 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire to Craig and Terri Peterson of Colfax.

A daughter, Samantha Elaine Flatland was born July 8 to Rocky and Elaine Flatland in Norfolk, VA.

For the fourth consecutive year, the women’s softball team from Colfax will be competing in the Women’s Class A State Tournament in Sheboygan.

Kim Grill of Bloomer and David Tuschl of Colfax were married July 14 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer.

Dymphna McCaughan, a 10-year-old girl from Lisburn, Ireland which is nine miles from Belfast, is one of 143 girls and boys who are spending six weeks this summer with a family in Wisconsin, Minnesota or North Dakota. Dymphna has been staying with the Dennis and Karen Wagner family of Route 3, Colfax.

July 30, 1964

After all votes were tabulated at various business places around Colfax, Kathy Hainstock was named the Centennial Queen and her attendants will be Nancy Anderson, Joan Higbie, Jean Knoepke and Linda Kragness.

Miss Clarice Anderson of Colfax and Pfc. Robert R. Jutz of Milwaukee were married June 27 at the Caserma Ederle Post Chapel, Vicenza, Italy.

A son, Randy Lee was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Valaske July 21 at Memorial Hospital in Menomonie.

July 21, 1949

Colfax and community lost two of its most prominent pioneer residents when death summoned William Edgar Van Brunt at age 86 and Martinius Ole Christofferson at age 77. Van Brunt served many years on the board of trustees for the village and on the board for Peoples State Bank while Christofferson was an active farmer, dairyman and stock raiser in the Sinking Creek area.

The Colfax Legion Junior team lost the 10th district championship playoff game to Eau Claire by a score of 7 to 0. Rolly Prince had the only hit for the Colfax team in the loss.

July 14, 1914

A few days ago some workman discovered a quantity of nitroglycerine with caps and fuse at a bridge west of town. It is thought the stuff was left there by some burglars for future use or from fear of being discovered with the deadly stuff in their possession.

Joe Beaudett of Chippewa Falls was a pleasant guest at the J.A. Freestone home in the village Sunday. It seems that Joe came to call on his friend Miss Hovland.
