Thomas Allen Riste, age 46, of Colfax, WI passed away early Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in the Critical Care Unit at Mayo Clinic Health System – Eau Claire where he had been since June 2, 2014.
He was born Feb. 8, 1968 in La Crosse, WI to Allen and Judith (Hill) Riste. He grew up in Colfax, WI, attended Colfax Elementary School and graduated in 1986 from Colfax High School. Tom was confirmed at Colfax United Methodist Church. He graduated from District One Technical School in Eau Claire, WI with a degree in Automotive Mechanics. He also attended several advanced training courses through which he received the GM Master Technician Award. He was the ultimate “Mr. Good Wrench”.
Tom was currently employed at Keyes Chevrolet in Menomonie. He had worked at Karl’s Chevrolet in Colfax for ten years, Toycen Motors in Bloomer, also at the Eau Claire Sears Auto Center and for Pat O’Hara at the Tractor Shop in Colfax.
On April 23, 1993 Tom married Melinda Knopps of Eau Claire and the couple had three wonderful children that he loved dearly.
“Tommy” as known to family and friends loved his family, their home north of Colfax and his dogs, Duke and Goober. He was an excellent auto mechanic, loved swap meets, gun shows, antique auto shows and races, was a member of the Dairyland Garden Tractor Pulling Association, loved tractor pulling and greatly enjoyed watching his children participate in the events. He had a subtle sense of humor and was always full of information. Tom was willing to extend a helping hand anywhere needed and made sure to instill this ethic in his children.
Tom is survived by his wife of 21 years, Melinda; daughter Breanna Riste and her friend Mike Noel of Colfax; son Mathew Riste and daughter Ciara Rose Riste both at home; his father, Allen L. Riste of Colfax and sister, Tammy and her husband Steve Wahlin of Crystal, MN; an uncle, Douglas (Beth) Riste of Woodruff, WI and aunts, Sue Hill and Connie (Jon) Haugle of Colfax; a cousin Nathan (Tammy) Haugle and family of Madison; and Melinda’s parents, Mike and Karen Knopps of Eau Claire.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Marie Riste, younger brother and best friend, Tim A. Riste; grandparents, LeRoy and Dorothy Riste and Thomas and Margie Hill.
Tom was a loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and all around “good guy”. He will missed by many and has left this world far too young.
Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Colfax United Methodist Church with Pastor Craig Conklin officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church. Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Menomonie is serving the family.
