Josh Lorenzen of Colfax graduated from Herzing Technical College in Madison with an Associate of Science Degree in CAD Drafting.

David Perry was arrested at his Wheeler home for possession of a methamphetamine lab and Cheryl Casello was also arrested at the home for bail jumping and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tryston Beyrer showed the grand champion steer and Jeco Beyrer had the grand champion swine at the Colfax Free Fair.

Synnove and Odd Kristiansen, daughter Bente and foster daughter Bodil Bjerkholt from Oslo, Norway, recently visited at the Hjalmer and Gladys Lind home.

Jim Kiesow and Les Redmann asked permission from the village board to use the Colfax Municipal building to hold church services for a new non-denominational church on Sunday mornings.

The Elk Mound school board voted to hire Deborah Swan as a new fifth grade teacher for the district after working as an aide for the school this past year.

The wedding of Nancy Sue Mortenson and Douglas Duane Nichols, both of Colfax, took place June 30 at Colfax Lutheran Church.

The Elk Mound American Legion baseball team posted its 18th win in 23 games so far after an 8-5 win over Chippewa Falls. Dan Molitor earned the win, pitching the first four innings and Scot Miller relieved him for the last three.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mahla, Elk Mound, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary August 5 at the Barum Lutheran Church.

Faith Lutheran Church of Running Valley was the setting for the wedding of  Miss Leila Moen of Eau Claire and Melvin Stoll of Minneapolis June 20.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Christianson are the parents of a daughter born June 24.

Doris A. Larson and Merle Longdo, both of Colfax,  exchanged wedding vows June 27 at the Colfax Lutheran parsonage.

Mickey Mickelson, age 17, narrowly escaped being killed last week in a tractor mishap while baling hay for Wilbur Sylte. Mickey slipped off the tractor being driven by Wilbur and was run over the chest by the tractor and by the wagon which was loaded with hay. He suffered many bruises and a partially collapsed lung but no broken bones.

Denny Prince was the winning pitcher for the Colfax city team in an 8-2 win over Bloomer, but he was tagged with the loss against Connorsville 7-2.

Chris Jenson and Sons of Colfax (Donald and Richard), stole the show at the Dunn County Fair by winning the senior and grand champion for bulls and cows in the Holstein class and also took eight first places, three third places and two third places in that classification.

Colfax Junior Legion base ball team easily breezed through competition in group 2 to win the championship with wins over New Auburn, Bloomer and Wheeler.

July 17, 1914

At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Thompson in Running Valley July 9, occurred the marriage of their daughter Alma to Mr. Fred Wilson of Minneapolis.

Early last Sunday morning a severe electrical storm passed over the area. A school house and a dance hall were blown down at Menomonie Junction, a large Lutheran church a few miles from Elk Mound was hit by lightning and burned to the ground, and near Eau Claire, a large barn on the John Curtis farm was also struck by lightning and burned.

While returning from Riverside Park last Sunday, Nels Christianson was run down by a car driven by Henry Amble and was quite badly injured. Nels was accompanied by a little niece who escaped practically uninjured.
