MADISON — Susan Hanestad of Boyceville medaled in three swimming events at the State Special Olympics recently.
Hanestad was among the nearly 2,000 Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes that participated and competed in the 2014 State Summer Games held June 5-7 at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Points. Athletes competed in track and field, aquatics, powerlifting and soccer.
Susie Hanestad, the daughter of Larry and Vivian Hanestad, earned three medals during the Games’ swimming competition. She took the Gold medal in the 100 meter Butterfly and scored second-place finishes in both the 200 meter Freestyle swim and as a member of the 4 x 100 meter Freestyle Relay team.
Hanestad, who has competed in Special Olympic events for several years, was part of a large Menomonie area contingent that featured 28 athletes.
