Elk Mound’s Megan Krumrie won a state track and field championship in the long jump with a leap of 17’1 ½ in LaCrosse. Alecia Ellingstad placed fifth in the pole vault and Hayley Suckow was sixth in both the pole vault and 400m dash.
From Colfax, Denise Kragness placed seventh in the discus throw at the state meet while Lloyd Neuburg was also seventh in the 3200m run.
Ken and Linda Holler will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an Open House at the Howard Town Hall June 12.

Married May 20 at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire were Pamela Helstrom of Eau Claire and James Jackson of Colfax.
Holden Lutheran Church, rural Colfax, will celebrate its 125th anniversary with festivities throughout the day on July 2, according to Pastor Gary Garnatz.
A daughter, Kara Ann was born May 8 to Thomas and Evelyn Burac of Mukwonago, a son named Chad Mark was born May 29 to Mark and Maureen Gardner of Colfax, and a son, Benjamin Jon was born May 24 to Thomas and Sandra (Blicher) Grensing of Chippewa Falls.
Cindy Froiland placed ninth at the state track meet for Colfax in the discus in Madison while Roger Hagberg represented the boys in the 400m dash.
Lori Dressel was named to the softball all conference team for Colfax while representing Elk Mound were Leesa Ritchie, Crissy Gorell, Renee Paulson, Renee Rhude and Lisa Morris.

A boy, Richard Jon, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jon Suckow June 6 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
Beth Ellen Wallace of Colfax and Eugene Schwartz of Bloomer were married June 2 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer.
Mike Steel of Eau Claire has taken over what was known as Lill’s Shell and will probably now be known as Mike’s Self Service.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hagberg, Jr., (nee Marjorie Hovland) of Omaha, Nebraska, are the parents of a daughter named Sandra Louise June 2.
Donna Higbie, and John Jahr and Gary Sonnenberg have been chosen to represent Colfax High School at the annual Girls’ and Boys’ States at the University of Wisconsin.
Requests have been made that a lifeguard be on duty at the village swimming beach five days a week.

The Big Elk Creek Church was the scene of the silver wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jensen of Colfax Sunday afternoon.
Boyceville eeked out a 12-11 win over our Colfax team in a Dunn county league game Sunday night. Gordon Gilberts had three hits for our locals.
We have on display in The Messenger office a speciment of rye from the Geo. Lowry farm which is over six feet tall. Mr. Lowry has 55 acres in rye and states this is the tallest he has ever raised.

Miss Olga Kinney met with an accident Monday forenoon that nearly resulted in a broken arm. In cranking her father’s car, a back action twisted her arm and it was thought had broken the member.
Earnest Wheeler and Miss Cora Helgeson, both of Colfax, were married in Minneapolis at noon on Monday of this week. They will make their home here in Colfax.
The local baseball team journeyed to Menomonie and crossed bats with the Athletic team of that place and practically showed the Athletics that their visitors were “some athletics” too as the score resulted 12-3 in favor of our boys.
