RANDY ROY ROSTAMO

Randy Roy Rostamo, age 54, of Colfax, passed away at his home in the Town of Grant.

Randy was born on November 18, 1959, in Eau Claire at Luther Hospital to Dale and Helen (Peterson) Rostamo. He attended several primary schools in Minneapolis and St. Paul, plus two years at Armadale Junior High School in Melbourne, Australia. In high school, he attended two years at Wayzata High School in Minnesota, and graduated from San Diequito High School in Encinitas, CA, with the Class of 1979. He attended Vo Tech in Eau Claire for two years and graduated with a certificate in Drafting. He also graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a Bachelors Degree in Technical Education in 1992 with Honors.

Randy joined the United States Air Force in 1988. He served at Lackland Air Force Base, one year at an Air Force Station on the Greek Island of Lafkas, Greece, and the remaining of his enlistment at Fort Fisher Air Force 701 Radar Squadron in Wilmington, NC. Upon leaving the Air Force, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technical Education. While attending the University, he joined the National Guard 32 Brigade 128 Infantry Company A in Menomonie, which he loved very much and severed for four years in that unit. He was also an active member of the University’s Vet Club.

During his years at Stout, Randy married Diane Oakerlander at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Menomonie. Upon graduation, they moved to Lake Geneva, WI, where Randy worked for Jacobsen Implements and Northern Computers. They later divorced. He moved back to the Eau Claire area where he worked for the 3M Company for a number of years. He then worked for Con Agra Foods in Menomonie for his final seven years.

During this time, he bought a hobby farm and made his primary interest in raising animals. While in the National Guard and at Con Agra he made many enduring friends, which mattered to him very much. As he lived alone and was lonely, these friends were a great comfort to him and he talked about them to his parents often. He enjoyed hunting with a special friend and fishing catfish, and was quite accomplished at both. First and foremost, he loved his birds. Randy raised quail, chickens and currently a few turkeys, which he treated as special pets. Also, during this time Randy became a devoted studier of the Bible and wrote a book on the 10 Lost Tribes of Israel. His faith and devotion to his Christianity became deeply rooted by his studies.

Randy is survived by his father, Dale of Menomonie; brother, Dean (Brenda) of St. Michael, MN; three nephews, Erik (Alexis) and Gabe of all Fort Drum, NY and Ryan of St. Michael, MN. Randy is also survived by many very special aunts, uncles, and cousins, who meant a lot to him in his loneliness for family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen in 2011; paternal grandparents, Erling and Delilah Rostamo; and maternal grandparents, Arthur and Christine Peterson.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Holden Lutheran Church in rural Colfax, with Pastor Bob Schoenknecht officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Burial was at Holden Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Grant, with military honors conducted by Russell-Toycen Post 131 from Colfax.
