Boyceville High School experiences prom night mock accident

BOYCEVILLE – Sirens filled the air shortly after dispatch sent out a page for a two car accident behind the Boyceville High School, which kicked off the start to the Mock Accident last Friday, April 25.
The high school/middle school students filled the hill side behind the school building as they watched first hand what happens after a distracted driving accident.
The page went out and immediately the Boyceville Police Department was on scene to assess the damage and extent of injuries followed by the EMS and Fire Departments.
One student was deceased after being ejected from the vehicle, two were in critical condition and placed in the Life Link helicopter, a couple others were sent by ambulances and one was treated for a minor head injury.
The final student left was the one who caused the accident due to driving while impaired. He was given a field sobriety test and eventually handcuffed and “hauled off to jail” by the Sheriff.
Members of the Fire Department used several extraction tools to demonstrate what it looks to remove pieces of a vehicle in order to remove a body that is trapped inside.
Once free, the students were placed on a back board by the careful hands of EMS and Fire personnel.
After each student was tended to, the Coroner arrived and the deceased was carried off of the vehicle by fire crew and placed into the black body bag.
As the coroner took the body away, the Sheriff handcuffed and placed the impaired driver into the cop car and “hauled him away”.
The chilling scene was a tactic used to remind students to make smart choices while enjoying their Prom, which was the following night.
The mock accident is a campaign that is used across the country by the Students Against Destructive Decisions Organization (SADD).
