A daughter, Jillian Rachel Bowe was born April 3 to Amy and Jan Bowe of Colfax.

A son, Thomas William Dunbar was born April 8 to former Colfax resident Paul Dunbar and his wife Kristin in Tucson, Ariz.

The Class of 1991-93 emerged as champion of the annual CHS Alumni basketball tournament after defeating the class of 1986-90. Team members were Dave Irwin, Daren Hoyland, Jamie Stobb, Marty Osterberg, Jerry Thompson, Brandon Topper, Neil Micheels and Ryan Butterfield.

For the fifth time, voters in the village of Elk Mound have turned down a referendum that would have allowed liquor licenses within the village.

Julian Logslett was re-elected as Colfax village president, trustees Loren Dressel and Clyde Steinmetz were also re-elected and newcomer Gene Carlson won a spot on the board.

Vernon and Mary Schindler will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary April 15 at the Pines Ballroom in Bloomer.

A boy, Eugene Dale, was born to Sue and Dale Anderson of Colfax April 16 at Memorial Hospital in Menomonie.

A son, Mickey Shane was born April 3 to Vivian Anderson of Eau Claire at Luther Hospital.

Lloyd C. Glasier of Colfax and Denise Sue Gunderson were married March 24 at Fort Hood Park Chapel, Fort Hood, Texas.

Al Douglas and Scot Miller will be representing Elk Mound High School at Badger Boys State in Ripon June 16-23.

A daughter, Danree Ann, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Fjelsted April 10 at Dovre, Delaware.

According to reports from the radio station in Eau Claire, wind gusts of up to 74 miles an hour along with lightning, thunder and rain caused considerable damage to buildings around the Colfax area.

Penny Swenson and Vickie Johnson will compete in the state forensics tournament for Colfax along with the play reading group of  Diane Spaulding, Mike Erickson, Dave Kragness and Bryn Volkman.

17 boys are scrapping for positions on the high school baseball team for coach Ken Poppy this season while there are 34 out for the freshman team.

Colfax dart ball teams made a good showing at the Menomonie tournament as the mixed Lutheran team took third, Norton took fourth and Holden won the consolation championship.

Garlen Mittelstadt luckily escaped with no injuries and his Reo truck was only slightly damaged when it overturned Friday afternoon on Highway 40 just as it leaves Highway 29 south of Colfax.

April 24, 1914

While on the bank of Mirror Lake, five year old Allan Anderson had a narrow escape from drowning. The little tyke had a disagreement with his friends and was pushed off the bank into the water which frightened the boys and they ran away and left him to his fate. It so happened Melvin Larson,who was working at the mill nearby discovered the boy in time to get him out and saved his life.

About 20 of her lady friends surprised Miss Flossie Gullickson with a handkerchief shower last Friday and she received many beautiful handkerchieves as a remembrance of the occasion.
