Sandra Fay Swenson

Born in St. Paul, MN

DOB/DOD: May 14th, 1941- April 12th, 2014

The world lost a truly wonderful lady with the passing of Sandra (Sandy) Swenson, in the night, while in her home with her husband nearby.

As a young lady, she worked for the University of Minnesota, during which time she met her one true love, the man she would spend the rest of her life with, Jerome (Jerry) Swenson. They were married March 25th, 1961 and soon thereafter, started their family and new life together.

In 1970, she and Jerry bought their farm in Clear Lake, WI, where she lived the rest of her life. Sandy held various jobs over the years such as with the clothing manufacturer Johnson Garment in Clear Lake and the Senior Center in Boyceville. But her true career was in farming, where she worked the fields for 30 years, doing what she loved most, driving tractor.

All of her life, she kept busy with activities and hobbies. As a young girl, she participated in exhibition horse riding and barrel racing at The Minnesota State Fair. She loved the fair as a young lady and that carried through her whole life, as she eagerly awaiting the next State or County Fair every summer, making sure to see every exhibit in every building. Later in life, she got involved with 4-H, where she was a leader for 20 years. She was also deeply involved with church activities at Immanual Lutheran in Forest, WI. She had many other interests, namely sewing, cooking and baking for her family and in the later years, bird watching and embroidery. She had a special place in her heart for the family dogs, especially her Australian Cattle dogs, Bo, Spike and Jackie.

In her final years, she fought with tremendous health challenges, but, despite whatever was thrown at her, she always battled back, to get back home to her family. She was always very brave and never complained. She was truly inspirational, a woman with a constitution of iron and a heart of gold.

She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Lorraine Wahlquist, her brother Eddie, and infant brother Teddy.

She is survived by her spouse of 53 years, Jerry, and her sister Gerry Lee Wilson and brother Rick Wahlquist. She is also survived by her four children, Micheal (Lynne) Swenson, Deborah (Gerald) Hoerres, Lisa Iverson, Connie (Shawn) Young and son-in-law Erick Iverson.  She is also survived by grandchildren Micheal Swenson, Marshall (Renee Stark) Swenson, Tyler Hoerres, Jayda Hoerres, Leslie (Peter) Volkman, Dylan (Brittany) Iverson and Madeline Young. She had one great-granddaughter, Nora Volkman. She is also survived by long time family friends Bill and Pat Hall, with whom, she and Jerry had many, many good times together.

We will miss you Sandy. We love you and we are all better people for having known you. Rest in peace, God’s new angel.
