BOYCEVILLE — A 19-year-old Boyceville man has accidentally shot and killed himself while cleaning a hunting rifle.
According to a news release from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department, on Wednesday, March 12, the Dunn County Communication Center was notified that 19-year-old Ryan Williams had suffered a gunshot wound at his residence in Boyceville at around 7:11 p.m.
Dunn County deputies, Boyceville police, and the Boyceville ambulance service responded to the scene.
The Dunn County medical examiner pronounced Williams dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that he had suffered an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound while cleaning his hunting rifle.
“There is no indication that this was an intentional act or any foul play involved,” according to the news release.
The Dunn County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind everyone to use four basic rules of firearm safety: treat every firearm as if it is loaded; always point the muzzle in a safe direction; be certain of your target and what is beyond; keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
“Had these four simple rules been followed, this tragedy would have been avoided,” the news release concludes.
Williams is the second member from last year’s graduating class at Boyceville High School to die in a tragic accident.
