Roger Gene Brown, age 70, of Colfax, passed away at home on March 6, 2014, surrounded by the love of his family. Roger was born on January 23, 1944, at his family home in Pleasant Valley the son of Philip and Marvel Brown.
He graduated with honors from Colfax High in 1962 and in 1967 from UW-Madison with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Roger worked for Cray Research for 28 years and finished his career at Chippewa Valley Technical College as a Professor of Electrical Engineering Technologies.
Roger married the love of his life Sally May Bartholomew on June 10, 1974. They purchased 160 acres from his parents where they made their home. Together they enjoyed a full life filled with love and laughter supplied by so many wonderful family and friends.
Roger enjoyed fixing antique clocks, bird watching, and cooking for his loved ones. He and Sally traveled often to see their grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. For many years they hosted a haunted Halloween trail for his grandchildren and friends. Roger and Sally were snowbirds who enjoyed wintering in Panama City Beach, FL. They survived being welcomed home with 8,000 post-it notes, 1,500 balloons in their bedroom, and a flock of paper mache` birds. Roger’s true joy in his life was caring for his family and showing them all how much he loved them.
Roger was loved and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Sally; his children, Cristina Casey, Danise (David) Shipley, John Brown, Cathy (Jeff) Meindel, Erika (Chris) Lentz, Ronda (Chad) Brown-Anderson, and Heather (Darrick) Winrich; brothers, Philip Jr., and Mike (Jan); sister, Suzie (Larry) Wieman; his grandchildren, Karen (Gordon), Joyce (Dustin), Courtney (Jason), Lakan (John), Kaysi (Connor), and Makenna; great-grandchildren, Ryhlee, Joshua, Elly, KateLynn, baby Beaulieu; and Goddaughter, Tania Renkin. Roger is further survived by numerous friends and family members.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother, Robert; brother; Jerry, sisters-in-law, Betty Brown and Cany Brown; grandchildren, Erin and Brendan Shipley; nephew, Craig Brown; mother and father-in-law, Jenny and Pete Bartholomew; sisters-in-law, Corrine Kenyon and Judy (Dick) Thurston; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Johnson.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 Railroad Avenue, Colfax, WI. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, at Barum Lutheran Church, Highway H North, Elk Mound WI, 54739, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Pastors Hal Schroetter and Dean Brockmeier are officiating. Interment will be in the Barum Lutheran Church Cemetery in the spring.
