Donald C. Jensen, 89, of Colfax, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 3 at his winter home in Lakeland, Florida.
He was born January 22, 1925 in Albertville, Wisconsin to Chris and Velma (Shafer) Jensen. He attended Frazier Grade School and was a 1943 graduate of Chippewa Falls High School.
Don married the love of his life, Borgny Lee, June 1, 1946 at the Colfax Lutheran Church. They were thankful for every day of their more than 67 years of married life, living near Albertville, and wintering in Lakeland, Florida the past 24 years. Until retirement, Don and Borgny were in partnership with brother and sister-in-law Richard (Dick) and Margaret (Peggy) Jensen at the Albertville Holstein Farm, Jensen Brother’s Trucking and Milk Hauling, and Albertville Farm Supply. Don loved everything about farming and farm life. He was known as a progressive registered Holstein breeder and conservation-minded steward of the soil. Widely recognized for his constant smile, he was a man loved and respected by family and friends alike.
From childhood through his adult life, Don was actively involved in his community and church. He was a member of Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church, Elk Mound, Wisconsin, and Reformation Lutheran Church, Lakeland, Florida; served as church council trustee and deacon; member of Wisconsin Master Farmer’s organization since 1968; member of National, Wisconsin and Chippewa County Holstein Association and various farm organizations; member of Indianhead Jaybirds Camping Club and Sawdust City Good Sam Club; Colfax International Coffee Club; and 4-H member and leader. As a youth he received the FFA State Farmer Degree and American Farmer Degree; represented Wisconsin at National 4-H Club Congress, and received the national award in conservation as well as a full college scholarship for his work in conservation; and was the Wisconsin 4-H Healthy Boy.
Don and Borgny traveled to all the states and Canadian provinces, and traveled twice to Alaska by motorhome. They enjoyed multiple cruises with their family including surprise cruises to celebrate each of their 80th birthdays and a cruise to Alaska with 16 family members to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. Don and Borgny loved fishing and spent time at Lake Tainter and northern lakes.
Don was a loving, kind husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished and is survived by his wife Borgny of Colfax. He was so proud of his children and their accomplishments: Julie Jensen, Allouez, Wisconsin; Donna (George) Menart, Howards Grove, Wisconsin; Lee (Jean Amundson) Jensen, Elk Mound, Wisconsin; Karla (David) Krueger, Oostburg, Wisconsin. He knew his grandchildren were special: Aaron (Sara) Jensen, Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Scott (Heather) Jensen, Vadnais Heights, Minnesota; Kevin (Ashleigh) Jensen, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Christopher and Ryan Menart, Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Samuel Krueger, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas; and Olivia and Andrew Krueger, Oostburg, Wisconsin. He loved his great-grandchildren: Brady, Reed, and Ellieana Jensen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Velma Jensen; father and mother-in-law, Sam and Mabel Lee; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Peggy Jensen; sister-in-law Ruby Johnson Shager; brothers in-law Arnold Solberg, Stanley Johnson, Leland Valaske, Arthur Evenson, and Einar Shager; and niece and flower girl Jean (Valaske) Thompson and nephew Ross Solberg.
Visitation will be held 4-8p.m. on Monday, March 10 at the Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Family and Friends are also welcome at the church one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held Tuesday, March 11, 11:00 a.m. at the Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church, Elk Mound, Wisconsin with Pastor Hal Schroetter officiatng. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
