NORMAN R. “SNORT” GILBERTS
Norman R. “Snort” Gilberts, age 86, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born May 5, 1927 in Sand Creek to Henry and Rena (Tweed) Gilberts. Norman served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Norma J. Frogner on June 21, 1947 in Colfax. They then moved to Sand Creek where Snort worked as the Postmaster for 30 years and was also a professional photographer. Together he and Norma owned and operated the Clover Farm Grocery Store and Locker Plant for 20 years. There was nothing that Snort wouldn’t do for his family or his community: coaching Little League, flooding the tennis courts for ice skating, volunteering for the fire department, serving on the Chibardun Telephone Board, being a 4-H Leader, singing in the church choir, and serving on the town board to name a few things. When Snort was around things just seemed to happen. He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church, the Commercial Club, and the Colfax VFW/American Legion. His bright smile and quick wit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by one son: Dr. Mark Gilberts of Mundelein, IL; one daughter: Cynthia Gilberts of Menomonie; two grandchildren: Megan (John) DeMotte of Cincinnati, OH and Matthew Gilberts of Mundelein, IL; two great-grandchildren: Noah and Levi DeMotte; brother: Dermont Gilberts of Ft. Atkinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Norma; one infant son: Greg Norman Gilberts; sister: Gilla Smith; brothers: Mervin, Alvin, and Gordon Gilberts; daughter-in-law: Patricia Gilberts.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek with Rev. Barb Koch officiating. Friends were able to call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer. Online condolences may be expressed at olsonfuneralhomebloomer.com
