Harvey R. Hinzman, age 82, of Menomonie, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at his home.

Harvey was born in Menomonie on August 10, 1931, to Helmuth and Agnes (Wendtland) Hinzman. He graduated from Barron High School and attended college at UW-River Falls.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1950. After serving, he traveled to California and worked at Lockheed Aircraft. He married Jean Holte on August 28, 1953 in Sand Creek, WI. They had four children.

In 1954 he became a Wisconsin State Patrol Officer. Harvey and Jean also owned and operated the Cedar Falls Store, the Den, NAPA Auto Parts in Menomonie, and later the Sportsman Bar in Ridgeland, WI until retiring in 1996.

Harvey was a lifetime member of the Willard L. Hinzman Legion Post 511 in Ridgeland. An original member of the Ridgeland Club cabin in Gordon since 1956, he enjoyed spending time there with family, friends and anyone who stopped by.  Harvey loved playing cards, cocktails, riding around the country, and telling stories.

Harvey is survived by his children Craig (Lorayne) Hinzman of River Falls, WI, Pam (Dean) Lausted of Menomonie, WI, Terry (Dave) Reidt of Menomonie, WI, and Scott  (Lynne) Hinzman of Eau Claire, WI; Grandchildren Logan (Jess) Hinzman, Matthew (Sarah)  Hinzman, David Hinzman, Sarah Hinzman, Tarrant Collett, Shannon Collett, Jason (Danielle) Lausted, Lindsey (Nick) Ladell, Megan (Charlie) Lausted, Branden (Katie) Reidt, Justin (Emily) Reidt, Tracy Reidt, Ashley Hinzman and Briana Hinzman; grandchildren Dominic and Alexander Hinzman; Kennedi and Mia Lausted; his sister Shirley Shipley, brother-in-law Lloyd Mickelson, sisters-in-law Ruby Lueck, Pat Paulsrud, Carol (Jerry) Dodge, Alicia (Gordy) Behling; many cousins, nieces, nephews and long-time friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helmuth and Agnes; his wife Jean; brothers Willard, Lawrence, Robert and Clarence; and sisters Jeanette Mickelson and Charlene Hinzman.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Ridgeland Community Center in Ridgeland with Pastor Dale Moe officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Burial will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, Township of Sand Creek, Dunn County at a later date.
