Bernadine B. Michels 91, of Bloomer, passed away February 7, 2014, at Hetzel Care Center.

Bernadine was born to Barney and Elenore (Wolf) Loew on September 25, 1922. She married Sylvan Michels on June 17, 1940, and they farmed in the town of Howard.  In 1970 they moved to Bloomer and she worked as a certified nursing assistant two years at Marek Rest Home and then 14 years for Chippewa County Golden Age, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cooks Valley and belonged to St. Barbara’s Circle of the altar & rosary society at church.  She was a member of the women of the Moose Lodge #513, The Academy of Friendship, a past senior regent of the Moose, and the leader of the Senior Citizens of Cooks Valley for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph (Patricia) Michels of Colfax, Dean (Jill) of Bloomer; four daughters, Helen Besst (Richard Byrkit) of Spooner, Doris (Vern) Aubart of Sandwich, IL, Cheryl (Darwin) Helgeson of Colfax, Marie (Jose) Rodriguez of Waco, TX; sisters, Alice Schindler, Vernetta Fanetti; 19 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; a brother, Clifford Loew; sisters, Dorothy Marsolek and Annetta Jenneman; son-in-law, Robert Besst; great grand baby Trenton Parker Rodriguez; and great granddaughter, Elle Jean Sonnentag.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cooks Valley with Fr. John Potaczek celebrating the Mass.  Visitation will be held Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Schriver-Thompson Funeral Home in Bloomer.  The rosary will be recited Monday at 4 p.m. by the St. John the Baptist Church Altar Society and a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday all at the Funeral Home.  There will be no visitation Monday at church.  Burial will be held in the spring at the church cemetery.
