Peter Duerst is accepted to MIT

BOYCEVILLE — Boyceville’s own Peter Duerst recently received some very exciting news; he was accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Out of nearly 7,000 students who applied through the early action program, just over 600 were actually accepted nationwide and Duerst is one of them.

 “Entrance into MIT is an amazing accomplishment for anyone. I think people sometimes think that people from small schools are at a disadvantage, but with hard work and a lot of perseverance, you can accomplish anything you want to,” shared Steve Glocke, the principal at Boyceville High School.

Perseverance and hard work is indeed what Duerst has achieved during his high school career as a Bulldog. Peter took every possible advanced placement class he could and is currently an A+ student.

Outside of the classroom, Peter has been active in Science Olympiad since seventh grade, he has been in the Drama Club since his sophomore year with three performance under his belt so far. He has ran cross country since his sophomore year as well.

Peter has also been president of his class since his freshman year. He went to Badger Boys State last summer as a junior and was elected Supreme Court Justice as well.

Duerst is set to graduate in May of 2014 and he can then begin his four year college career at MIT in late August, early September.

Peter shared that he is both excited and nervous to see where the rest of his life will take him after graduation.
