10 years ago – December 3, 2003

Rose Marie Loew of Colfax and Jeremy Jay Voss of Spirit Lake, Iowa were married Nov. 15 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer.

Colfax graduate Paul T. Dunbar, Air Force Staff Sergeant, recently earned the distinguished graduate award after completing the USAF Independent Duty Medical Technician Course at Sheppard AFB, Texas.

After falling behind 38-31 against Glenwood City, the Colfax girls came back for a 53-48 win as Lauren Mulvey made two foul shots and scored on a put back in the final 19 seconds to ice the win.

25 years ago – December 1, 1988

Deer registrations in Colfax were down by 49 deer for firearms season which ended Nov. 27 according to employees at Colfax Express Mart.

The Colfax Board of Education approved the Auxiliary staff contract for the 1988-89 year with cook’s pay starting at $6.05 an hour, custodians at $6.43 an hour and secretaries at $5.55 an hour.

In basketball action, the Colfax boys lost their opening game 36-34 to Cornell with Chris Stoffel scoring 18 points for the Vikings. The girls ran their record to 4-0 with a 58-39 win over Prairie Farm with Jodi Bosch scoring 25 points to lead Colfax.

35 years ago – December 7, 1978

Sally Louise Peterson of Colfax and Douglas Warren Weichmann of Sun Prairie were married Nov. 26 at Longboat Island Chapel in Sarasota, Florida.

Ronald and Cheryl Flug are the parents of a boy named Brandon Milo on Oct. 26.

The Colfax boys began their defense of the Dunn-St. Croix Conference title with a 66-50 win over Glenwood City. Mike Kiekhafer led the Vikings with 18 points.

The Colfax girls romped over Elk Mound 73-22 as Janet Rothbauer poured in 32 points for the Vikings.

50 years ago – December 5, 1963

Colfax graduates Marjorie Marie Hovland and A/1c Jack D. Hagberg were married Nov. 21 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minn.

Lynn Susan Maves and Arthur T. Nabbefeld, both of Colfax, were united in marriage Nov. 23 at Tainter Evangelical United Brethren Church, Colfax.

Twins, a boy named Todd Wallace and a girl named Tamara Mae were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Swenson Nov. 30.

Mr. and Mrs. Juel Rhude of Elk Mound observed their silver wedding anniversary with an open house at their home.

65 years ago – December 9, 1948

Former residents of Colfax, Miss Mary Jane Skrogstad and George W. (Johnny) Slechta were married Dec. 4 at the Lakeside Methodist Church in Lakeside, Michigan.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gluth of Wheeler will hold an open house at their home to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Dec. 12.

Colfax High School found itself on the short end of a 40-29 score in the Middle Border basketball opener with Spring Valley last Friday night. They showed much improvement on Tuesday but lost a heart breaker to Glenwood City 28-27 when a technical foul in the last minute of play was made good by the visitors at the final gun.

100 years ago – December 19, 1913

Old People Wed: The marriage of Mr. Simon Christianson and Mrs. Alex Olson occurred at her home in Running Valley on Tuesday of last week.

While skating with other young people on Mirror Lake Monday evening, Miss Olga Kinney had the misfortune to break through the ice and get a cold water bath which gave her a “severe shock” from which she suffered many hours.
