Arnold R. Greenhill, 66, of Shawano, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday evening, November 30, after a long and valiant battle with Multiple Myeloma.
The son of Harold and Evelyn (Melgaard) Greenhill, he was born on August 15, 1947, in Colfax, WI.
Arnold graduated from Chetek High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and a Doctorate of Law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School. While in Law School, his education was temporarily placed on hold as he served in the Armed Services from 1970-1972. Prior to returning to Law School, he also worked as an undercover narcotics agent for the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
While attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, he met his wife, Elsie, and they married on February 13, 1971, in Madison, WI. When he returned to Law School, he became a clerk in the Attorney General’s Office for the State of Wisconsin. Upon first moving to the Shawano community in 1975, Arnold worked as the Assistant District Attorney in Shawano and Menominee Counties before opening his own Private Law Practice. Arnold’s notable work ethic, intellect, and stature in the community established his professional success, but it was his humor, gentle/generous spirit, and engaging friendship that made him a beloved confidant to so many people. He loved golfing with his family and friends (especially on Thursday afternoons), cooking, cheering for all of the Wisconsin sport franchises, gardening, collecting sports memorabilia, and fishing. He always provided his unwavering support and praise for his children and grandchildren whom he loved so much.
Left to celebrate Arnold’s memory are: his wife of 42 years, Elsie of Shawano; two sons, Tony (Angie) of Slinger, WI, and Ryan of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Zachary (7), Ashley (4), and Jeffrey (2); three siblings, Gaylon (Hannah) Greenhill of Whitewater, WI, Thelma (Jake) Bursik of Marathon, WI, Mary Ellen (Ingman) Ralph of Colfax, WI; one sister-in-law, Carol Albright of Sun Prairie, WI; and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Harold and Evelyn Greenhill; his in-laws, Richard and Esther Albright; and his brother-in-law, George Albright.
