Boyceville school board approves new budget

BOYCEVILLE — The Boyceville school board approved the 2013-2014-school budget at their meeting Monday night. The total budget for the year is $11,577,062 which includes some $1,319,279 in debt service. The new budget will require a mill rate of 11.70.

According to figures presented to the board at the meeting the total tax levy on property in the school district will be $2,989,525 on an equalized valuation in the district of $255,442,199.

These new figures show a decrease in both the mill rate and tax levy from last year. The mill rate was 12.4 last year with a total tax levy of $3,137,731.

The school board heard from Tiffany Creek Elementary Principal Nick Kaiser that they were recently named a Wisconsin School of Recognition. “This is the fifth time Tiffany Creek has been recognized.” Kaiser’s report indicated. He said Janine Klaustermeier, Angela Hellmann, Amy Phillips and Deb Bell went to Madison to accept this award.

Middle/Senior High School Principal Steve Glocke reported that Megan Bird, Lauren Klassen and Nolan Windsor have been selected to participate in the Menomonie Area Chamber of Commerce Junior Chamber Program. His report noted Ms. Berry hosted Junior/Senior Night for students and parents to gather information about post-secondary options. The event covered how to begin the process of applying for life after high school graduation.

The board accepted a $1,200 Ann Marie Foundation Grant to fund a purchase of a 26-inch adult tricycle for the High School Multi-Categorical Severe Program and the purchase of two ipads and cases for the Elementary Special Education Program.

They accepted the resignation of Laura Debee as Quiz Bowl Advisor and Academic Decathlon Advisor.
