WALTER M. GLENNY

Walter M. Glenny, age 98, Township of New Haven, WI died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Dunn County Health Care Center In Menomonie, WI.

Walt was born December 27, 1914 in the Township of New Haven Dunn Co., WI to William and Clara (Degneau) Glenny.

From 1920 to 1928, he attended the Bolen Grade School, attended the Downing High School for two years and later graduated from Boyceville High School. After high school, Walt had various jobs, working as a laborer at a saw mill and pumping gas for Paul Hanson.

Walter married Doris Koshark on November 20, 1939 in Stillwater, MN. To this marriage union three daughters were born: Judy, Gloria and Jeanne. Following Doris’ death, Walt married Lorraine Wietzel in 1977.

Walt lived in an era when horses were a large important part of daily life. His favorite mare was named Maude. She was raised on a bottle and lived over 30 years. Along with farming, Walt worked construction for 20 years, he served on the school board for 21 years, town chairman for 14 years and president of the Dunn County Farmers Union for seven years. In 1988 he helped organize the Wisconsin Draft Horse and Mule Association and hosted a field day at his farm. Although he didn’t pull horses, he attended the horse pulls whenever possible. In addition he participated in numerous parades.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris in April 1974 and Lorraine in 1987,  granddaughters Jill Christine Logan and Judith Jeanne Briesemeister and great-grandson Sebastian Daniel Logan.

Walter is survived by daughters Judith (John) Steinberger of Boyceville, WI, Gloria (Dale) Logan and Jeanne (Robert) Briesemeister all of Clear lake, WI;  14 grandchildren Ronald (Deanna) Steinberger, Roxanne (Joel) Horky, Rita (Kevin) Vance, Rick (Donnette) Steinberger, R. John (Brenda) Steinberger, Deonne (Dan) Galloway, Patrick (Tracie) Steinberger, Scott (Trudie) Steinberger, Rachel (Mark) Kaczmarski, Tim Logan, Stacia Logan-Fredrick (John A. Fredrick) Dan (Angie) Logan, Robert (Janis) Briesemeister & Rebecca Seidel (Dan) Vinup; 37 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Boyceville, with Reverend Timothy Matthaei officiating. Burial was in the New Haven Cemetery in the Township of New Haven Dunn Co., WI. Local arrangements were by the Anderson Funeral Home in Glenwood City, WI.
