WALLACE “WALLY” R. BJORK

Wallace “Wally” R. Bjork, 84, of Elk Mound, passed away at his home on Monday, August 5, 2013.  He was born in St. Paul, MN, on July 11, 1929, to Carl and Nora (Everson) Bjork.

Wally and his family moved to the Bjork farm of rural Elk Mound in 1930. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1947. He married Elaine F. Holm in October of 1950. They had four children, Steven (Sandra) Bjork, Roland Bjork, Debra (Fred) Whiting and Kevin (Lori) Bjork. They have four grandchildren, George (Stephanie) Brady, Nicholas (Monica) Bjork, Weston (Meredith) Whiting and Spencer Whiting. They also have four great-grandchildren, Zoe Ann & Kyle Bear Brady, and Caroline Rose & Cooper Harrison Whiting.

Wally farmed for a few years in the area and then the family moved to Brookfield, IL, where he worked in the Redi-Mix industry for 18 years before moving back to the Bjork farm in 1975. He farmed and drove school bus for Colfax and Elk Mound schools. He was employed at Jensen’s 5-Star Dairy Farm at the time of his death. Wally was an active member of Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church, recently serving as a deacon. He greatly loved the Lord, loved riding his Harley and he loved to be working. He will be missed by so many.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roland; and brother, Lyle. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Margaret Whiting, the mother of George & Nicholas; sister, Beverly (Jim) Spagnoletti; sister-in-law, Ilene Bjork; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 Railroad Avenue, Colfax, WI. Funeral Service was at 11 AM on Friday, at Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church, 6118 County Hwy M, Elk Mound WI, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Pastor Hal A. Schroetter will be officiating. Interment will be in the Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Elk Creek Church Improvement fund or donor’s favorite charity.
