Joseph Ambrose Swartz passed away on June 28, 2013, Mayo Clinic Health System – Chippewa Valley, in Bloomer.

He was born on February 22, 1922, in Cooks Valley to Thomas and Katherine (Grill) Swartz.  Joe farmed in Cooks Valley his entire life.  On May 21, 1946, he married Gladys Wolf in Cooks Valley.

Joe was a long time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cooks Valley.  He spent six years as the Assessor in Cooks Valley Township.  His interests included bowling until he was 89; Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, fishing, cats, cows, reading and playing cards.

Joe is survived by eight children, David (Jane) of Colfax, Diane (Chris) Paulson of Pine Island, MN, Roger (Debbie) of Bloomer, Gerald, Allen, and Gary Swartz all of Colfax, Janet (Alex) Myrman of Chippewa Falls, Pamela (Mike) Hoyland of Colfax.

Also by grandchildren, Aaron (Cynthia) Paulson of Martinsburg, WV, Kimberly (Robb) Cropp of Baltimore, MD, Joshua Swartz of Shawno, WI, Nathan (Seija)  Swartz of Colfax, Stephanie (John) Abbe of Chippewa Falls, and Steven (Tracy) Swartz of Colfax.; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sharon (Tom) Zenner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Andrew, Roman, and Leonard; and three sisters, Anna, Helen, and Alvina.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cooks Valley.  Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 – 7 p.m. Sunday at Schriver-Thompson Funeral Home in Bloomer and one hour prior to mass, Monday, at church.  Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
