Amanda Burrington was named Female Athlete of the Year and Mike Baumgartner Male Athlete of the Year at the Colfax Athletic Banquet. Most Coachable Athletes were Matt Kistner and Katie Nellessen. Selected as the Loyal Fans of the Year were John and Pam Arntson.

Laura Bjork of Colfax, now a member of the University of Minnesota cross country and track and field teams, was one of the top scholar athletes honored by the U of M April 14.

Colfax senior Jessica Anderson was named the Bremer Youth of the Month for May.

Leadership awards presented at the Elk Mound FFA banquet went to Mike Melgaard, Star Chapter Farmer, Jenny Hemenway, Chapter Leadership, Vicky Christopherson, Star Greenhand, Amy Maves, DeKalb Award and Kevin Gilbertson, Greenhand Leadership.

A large crew of friends and neighbors came out with their equipment to plant about 190 acres of corn at the Duron and Marilyn Bergeson farm after they lost their son Brent in a farming accident last week.

Tracey Johnson and Justin Loew were named May Achievement Award Winners by the First American Bank of Colfax.

James Ackerlund will begin employment at Peoples State Bank as the Farm Representative June 1.

Janice Rosenberg became the bride of Paul Wittrock April 15 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Cooks Valley.

David W. Holling, former resident of Colfax, will receive a Master of Divinity degree from the United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.

Janet Rothbauer set a new school record in the shot put with a throw of 35’6 ½ at the Cornell Invite while the 440 relay team also set a school record with a time of 55.8 run by Kristy Hoyland, Kay Stai, Karen Fox and Jodi Snyder.

A son, Gregory Albert, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Close of St. Paul on May 7.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bartilson of Charlotte, Mich., a son named William Robert on May 3.

Chosen to represent the Colfax school system at the Badger Boys and Girls State are Kathy Hanson, Bryn Volkman and David Martinson.

Seventy-nine Colfax High School seniors will receive their diplomas at graduation exercises to be held on the high school lawn Monday evening, May 24.

Harvey Melgaard has been promoted to Sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corps and will be stationed at Paris island, South Carolina.

Coach Kenneth Poppy and wife royally entertained members of the Colfax High School basket ball  squad at the Savel Haugli cottage on Tainter Lake last Saturday.

May 23, 1913

The bill appropriating $265.00 for new buildings and grounds for Stout Institute became a law on Wednesday when it was published. The local school, within two years, will undoubtedly be the second largest educational institution in Wisconsin in point of attendance.

This summer, Running Valley Congregation, belonging to the Lutheran Free Church Denomination, celebrates its fiftieth birthday.
