For the last 18 months the United Way C-3 Store has provided, free of charge, household necessities such as furniture, kitchen utensils, pots and pans, appliances, linens, and family clothing to those who are experiencing difficult times.
Countless times the C-3 Center has witnessed levels of need that would take most of us to our knees. A family with four children without a refrigerator for several months because medical costs prevented them from saving enough money to purchase one, or a single mom coming out of the homeless shelter looking for the necessities to be able to survive with her three children such as beds, table and chairs, dishes, clothing, appliances are just a two examples of the level of need we see on a regular basis.
The United Way C-3 Center can only provide these necessary items through the great generosity of the community. We can only provide what has been donated to the Center.
Over the last 15 months, we have served over 1,025 family units and regularly distributed an average of over 3,000 items monthly.
The manpower need to operate a facility of this type is provided through partnerships with transition programs, community service hours and volunteer hours. Many of our current volunteers are individuals who have come to us in another capacity and understand the importance and benefits of the program and returned to continue providing assistance. They have experienced what it means to have the C-3 Center available to assist those facing such difficult times. They also have a much clearer understanding of what it means to assist others in need.
As much as the United Way wanted this to be a source for stability in the lives of those needing household items, it has become so much more. It has truly become a community center that Dunn County can be very proud of.
The C-3 Center is located at 1320 Stout Road, Menomonie, WI 54751. It is open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday for donations.
