Roberta Schindler and Andy Lorenzen were named Colfax Junior Prom Queen and King for 2003.
Mike Baumgartner, Boy Scout Troop 42, Colfax, received his Eagle Scout Award April 13 at Colfax Methodist Church.
It was a successful hunting season for Gust Fehr, former Colfax resident, as he dropped a 24 pound turkey south of Colfax April 30.
25 years ago – May 5, 1988
Brent Bergeson, age 10 of rural Colfax, died April 29 from injuries sustained in a farm accident at his Route 1 home.
Tina Nelson and Dena Braaten combined for a no-hitter, but allowed 22 walks as the Colfax softball team beat Plum City 18-13.
The Colfax Village Board discussed the possibility of imposing a dress code for bars when it was reported the Sportsman’s Bar was considering having male dancers perform there.
35 years ago – May 11, 1978
Mary Lou Jenneman and Joseph Brian Hagberg were united in marriage April 29 at Holden Lutheran Church.
Nancy Noer batted 3 for 3 with a double and Cheryl Hedler and Denise Knutson were 2 for 3 as the Colfax softball team pounded Arkansaw 17-7.
The Colfax golf team won a triangular meet at Whitetail Golf Course as Brad Uhrig tied for medalist honors.
50 years ago – May 9, 1963
Named valedictorian of the Colfax class of ‘63 was Margaret Mannes while Donna Rice was the salutatorian.
Holden Lutheran Church was the setting for the wedding of Joyce Marie Anderson and David H. Bates, both of Minneapolis on April 27.
Miss Jane Marie Higbie became the bride of Thomas Loew April 27 at St. John’s Catholic Church at Cooks Valley.
65 years ago – May 13, 1948
On Saturday evening, May 1 at Bethlehem Lutheran Chapel, St. Paul, Minn., Miss Harriet Louise Anderson of Colfax became the bride of Duane C. Gibbons of St. Paul.
Colfax and community lost a highly respected servant of God when Rev. K. Sumstad died May 9 of a heart attack at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire.
Pitching was a feature of the game for both teams as Colfax’s Mervin Gilberts shaded Elk Mound’s Jerome Braaten in a 7-2 Colfax win in the opening game of the Dunn County baseball league.
100 years ago – May 16, 1913
Carpenters have been at work the last week constructing a sleeping porch on The Messenger building, and soon with the editorial staff sleeping with free access to the open air, “spooning” here-abouts may need to be suppressed in order to keep it “out of print”.
Miss Delcena Washburn returned to Eau Claire Tuesday after a successful term of teaching in the Running Valley School.
Last Saturday, Michael Shong of our town received a letter containing a check for $101.35 from Uncle Sam for backpay on an increase in his pension. He is a Civil War veteran who offered himself a sacrifice to his country and it is our hope no veteran shall ever be neglected or allowed to suffer for wants of the comforts of life.
